You have just re-enforced my point. Lott didn't really think he did anything wrong and saw no reason to upset his vacation. He is weak and spineless and this episode is just an extension of that. I listened to the anger in President Bush's voice IN PUBLIC...I can only imagine what he said and felt in private. Our President has spent the last two years of his presidency reaching out to minorities, just as he successfully did in Texas - and it took this bozo two minutes to wipe it all out. And Lott still doesn't get it. He is not fit to reach out in expanding our base. He is a major roadblock.

Was Lott's mishandling of this enough of a reason to abandon him and undue the results of the midterm election? The only one that can undue the results of the midterm election is Lott. On the other hand, he can step down, shut up and serve MS in the Senate for the next six years in relative obscurity.

Tariq Aziz sounded like a Democrat to me.

I believe that the feather in Lott's hat is, appropriately, a Turkey feather.

...If Lott stays as ML, I think we lose in 04. I agree
To: ricpic
He said that he is a Christian and that IF Bush is a Christian too, then he would not be war-mongering. Total insult. Does not have a glimmer as to Bush's Constitutional DUTY to protect this nation.
To: Right_in_Virginia
Are you saying Lott should stay no matter what the cost? This is an issue that has passionate views on both sides and I understand that. I am just not willing to sacrifice the future of the party and the President for an ineffectual, spineless, thoughtless senator.

"My name is Trent, I am Gay, and that's OK!"
I'm a gay dixiecrat and I'm ok, I lynch all night, and I prance all day.

Lott's statement played the white race card, an act as ugly as liberals playing the black race card. It was not "dumbass" it was deliberate. And yes, there is a double standard, but that doesn't release us from the moral obligation to do what's right.
Lott's endless lame apologies are Clinton lite. He's looking for something that "works", not something that's true. It's time for Lott to go.
Lott, in his dumbass move last week, gave rise to the inference that he embraced the dixiecrat platform yet today.

I am surprised to find some in agreement with me here. Yesterday, I was almost flamed to death. LOL

Russert does not come on here until 11am. For those getting the program earlier, what is happening there?
To: NautiNurse
Sounds like the right thing to do. I am struck by Lottbots who act as though Trent was conservatism personafied before this lastest incident Well I do understand why many have stuck by Lott on this one issue, but it is not because of his conservatism .. he bends over to many times to the left
I don't think Lott is a racist, but if he resigns then that is the message that will be sent ..
I am one of those that think Lott should not step down because of what the left THINK he meant. The Thought Police will not stop if Lott steps down. They will come after Republicans even more so and will get even nastier .. that you can count on.
I can't speak for others, but I am sick and tired of the left attacking us as evil racist republicans. I am sick of saying oh well, just another attack.
I want it to stop, I want the race baiting to end but this will never happen as long as we don't take some kind of a stand
With all that said, I do realize that Lott's political career as ML is pretty much over, I really don't know how he can survive this.
However, we as a party need to realize also what could happen and be prepared .. because the Left is not going to back off

It appears many are defending Lott because they do not want the Dems to "to win". They fail to see that it is a "win" for Republicans if Lott is replaced. He is damaged goods and will never recover from his stupidity. You have hit the nail on the head, NewsGal. But this is NOT about the Dems winning. This is about our Party doing the right thing - and not acting like the Democrats did when they protected Byrd. I hope we are better than they are.
To: Alas Babylon!
Levin on MTP is sickeningly sanctimonious over the Lott issue, trying to make it a GOP problem. What are he and the Dems going to do about Sheets?

However, we need to pick our battles carefully in order to win the war. Lott is mortally wounded (he waited too long to toss his own grenade after pulling the pin). Time to move on to more viable arguments and challenges.
To: Wait4Truth
oh yeah the republicans are so much better when it comes to letting the rats run all over them! LOL

Unfortunately, I did not pay as close attention as I should have. J.C. Watts "sort of" defended Lott, but not strongly. McConnell is defending Lott on Fox right now. Bad move, IMHO. He sounds like an apologist for Lott.
To: Mo1
Republicans have just thrown the 2002 win away by caving in and being spinless. Oh well when they come for the next one who will be to blame......????

Lott's statement played the white race card, an act as ugly as liberals playing the black race card.
Lott's racist comment was not "dumbass" it was deliberate. This was not the first time it was said, and my guess is it wasn't the second time it was said either. It had the ring of Country Club stump speech filler.
A double standard doesn't release us from moral obligation to do what's right. We're not democrats endlessly trolling for plausible excuses.
Lott's endless lame apologies are Clinton lite. He's looking for something that "works", not something that's true. It's time for Lott to go.
