What is interesting to me is the fact that the many of the blacks want the whites to apologize and be tolerant of them because of slavery, but they are not willing to forgive and forget.

After this length of time,this means to me that they do not want this issue to ever go away. For if it did go away then they would have to work and earn what they achieve rather than demanding that someone give them a place in our society.

As far as I can determine it is many of the blacks that are the real racists.

Just a former English teacher view: The misunderstanding both of you had, I think, is because of a misplaced comma. BP, putting the comma AFTER "d.....s" looked like a noun of address to bvw. I THINK you meant instead (w/out the comma) to have that word to act as an adjective to describe Lott. Am I right?

Well said. This controversy was about genuine outrage at Lott first, and only then became a question of political maneuvering.
