It is of great interest (and of course concern) that many "hot spots" around the world acted up almost simultaneously right after 9/11.

It showed a vaunerability. They noticed we COULD be attacked. They got bolder.
Thanks Bill, for being such a gutless coward for 8 deadly years.

There was some international law....

When it comes down to it, there isno international law. The world is an anarchy by definition. Every country gets to do whatever it wants.

Of course there are consequences, but the name of the game is the balance of power. It is a zero sum gain. In order for one nation to gain power, another must lose some. Creating alliances with other powerful nations is the only way to multiply one's power. And that is exactly what NKoreaChina is doing.

It is interesting that the US recently made the official statement that we would defend Taiwan if she is attacked. That commitment now ensures that we can be weakened. If we are engaging Iraq, all China has to do is lob a few across the Straits, and we will have to respond.

This is getting goddamn scary. There is no relief in sight.

Koffi Anan of the UN, and the I.A.E.A. chief told them just hours ago not to try and pull this stunt.

Koffi probably said it while doing the ole "Wink wink, nudge nudge. Know what I mean? Say no more..."

That's because being intolerant of other nations needs is mean spirited and racist - the '90's. (Barf!)

This is getting goddamn scary. There is no relief in sight.

And what the hell has Clinton been doing the last 2 years? He's been in Europe telling them the only way America will ever see peace is to share the wealth! Unless all nations are equal (communist), the US will not see peace.
He's feeding the anti-American fire with his lies and left wing retoric.

I'd like to see them try and invade. What -- We got -- something like fifty 688 attack subs in our inventory? Send a dozen to the straits and they will make piece meal of the ChiCom navy.

"He's been in Europe telling them the only way America will ever see peace is to share the wealth!"

The treasonous, delusional bastard Bill Clinton has shared enough (two damn nuclear reactors -that's quite enough for me!)

"Send a dozen to the straits and they will make piece meal of the ChiCom navy."

Not to be pessimistic but bastard Clinton - as we all know - accepted all that money from John Huang, Johnny Chung and Charlie Trie for our multiple nuke re-entry technology.

I respectfully disagree. I don't think they want an unstable crackpot like Kim Jong Il on their back porch with nukes any more than Japan and So. Korea

I agree with you about this point, but China's plans are much more complicated than that. They play the world like a three dimensional chess board.

They have long range concerns about refugees and yes, military actions, but their plans regarding the U.S. are also in the mix. They do not want us destroyed financially, because of trade concerns and the like. These same concerns put them at odds with us over Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and the related Stans.

They rally want us off balance, so that their perceived fears that we will somehow gain control and strengthen relations in their own back yard. They also connect all of this to the Taiwan issue.

They definitely want us pulling and pushing in multiple directions, so that our power is diluted and little progress can be made on any front. They could have complete control of N. Korea, any time they want to move. As long as N. Korea's diplomatic bellicosity continues toward the U.S., they view this as a plus for them and will use it as a device to keep us occupied.

This makes them feel safe.

Chinese aid is one of the reasons North Korea has endured so long. If China did not want a crackpot next door, the aid would have stopped long ago.

And our aid to the Korean emperor? Or was that tribute?

LOL! I missed that typo (and 100 others every day). For the JD students out there, that was meant to be a fart.

I repeat, we live in an age of nuclear war, period. The minute a large second front opens up, it gets ugly and fast. You can bet we will be provoked because this provocative N. Korean move had to orchestrated by the ChiComs. We will see 3 regional world governments before you know it. China will militarily and de facto lead the Pacific Union. The European Union (United States of Europe) and the United States of the Americas (United States).

Re #33

We could say that China is rapidly losing confidence in N. Korean regime. China may have trusted N. Korea as its proxy until recently. But N. Korea did too much freelancing lately, including getting too close to Russia, and trying to pull off new special economic zone next to the Chinese border without clearing it up with China first, with Yang Bin as its head who was imbroiled in large corruption scandal and tried to take shelter in N. Korea.

Although outrageous behaviors of N. Korea during the past few weeks can be useful for overstretching America, militarily draining its resources and hampering American geopolitcal objectives, the problem is that China has little control on N. Korean actions, which could give them serious anxiety. Because things can go as much for China as against China.

Re #64

It is the reflection of warped mentality of some educated elites. That is, "if we are smart enough, we can always have free lunch". They live in this fantasy world where their smarts can take care of all problems with minimal loss. It is the world where their smarts can call all the shots and other things are pretty irrelevant. Euro elites have the same mentality for a long time.

This is also why these folks dreamt up the smooth process of globalization at minimal cost.

RE #64 (continuation)

I also have to add that Clinton is a really unscrupulous man. He will do anything to get elected. Allowing the transfer of military technology for campaign donation is entirely possible.
