As someone else said, this is management 101. Lott is not blackmailing anyone - he's simply saying what he'll do. It's the people trying to fry him who are forcing the issue. This is NOT the way we want Lott to resign. To do so would leave a precedent hanging over this administration and Republicans in general.

No one is telling Lott to leave the Senate. He does need to vacate the Majority Leader position, though, because he's stupid, and now he's hurting the party. The cause is bigger than him.

It's really ironic that the bulk of the people here have been complaining that Lott is too weak, that he doesn't have any backbone. Well, now that he's starting to demonstrate some backbone by asserting his intent to stay as Senate Majority Leader, they're eating him alive. Just like a bunch of jackals!
