The thing is, if Lott steps down as majority leader, the Democrats will still be banging the drum claiming, "if what he said was bad enough to step down as leader, he should step down as Senator as well", it's their chance to steal a Senate seat.

Well, when he is sitting on the garbage collection committee, such tirades can more easily be tolerated.

He has to step down as Senate Majority Leader. If he resigns his Senate seat or blackmails the GOP as a threat then so be it. If we let Lott stick around then we're no better than the liberals. This is a huge turning point for our party and the decent is growing. I say bite the bullet and take the moral high ground on this one . . . otherwise Lott becomes a lame-duck Senate Majority Leader if there is such a thing.
