Trent Lott, in a conference call with 27 GOP Senate Republicans today, said that he would leave the Senate if forced from the Leader position.
Jonathan Karl said three or four of the Senators viewed this as "blackmail," but that the majority still support Lott and want him to continue as Leader.

DON'T BE A FREAKING IMBECILE AND TALK ABOUT HOW A RACIST SHOULD HAVE BEEN PRESIDENT!Harry Truman was a racist.
Just goes to prove that redemption is not the impossible dream.

Again, humbly, I disagree. Bush and his machine will grind Lott up worse than the left will, sheerly by doing it themselves, when they realize this isn't blowing over, what he's done to us politically and if he truly is blackmailing all of Republicandom.

The Lott just gave it back to them, de facto.... Maybe.
We will just have to wait and see. I predict Lott may step down or is voted out as majority leader in about 6 months if he continues to be a detriment to the party.
But for now, I agree with rintense Lott should stay.

Well I'm off to take the doggie to see Santa Paws... adieu! :)

"GWB by the jimmies"
Lott: "I just embarrassed the entire party, but I want to remain in power. No matter how much it hurts the party."
Lott is real impressive.
What a self-serving, preening fem he is.

#886 was an excellent post.

My sentiments exactly. We eat our own and then wonder why we are alone. Our obsession with RACE and his EGO will transform a tremendous victory for conservatism into a Democrat controlled Senate or a disfunctional Republican controlled Senate. In other words we LOSE or we LOSE. Pathetic ending to a wonderful beginning.

We will just have to wait and see.
Something tells me the Vacant Lott burned up his get out of jail card this time.
To: Bluntpoint
The imprudent one is now blackmailing his colleagues.
Do you blame him?
These same people are saying "we know you aren't a racist.. Now put on the white hood, sit in the back and vote like we tell you."
This might be a political calculation to you, but to Trent it's the rest of his life we are talking about here.

"Clean the catbox!"
I know what this means, this is internet slang for:
"I know where you live and I will kill you when you sleep."
Did I read that right?

Jimmy, the outrage expressed here by the firing squad for the guy in the blindfold not standing still is one of the great ironies at FR of all time.

No, they are saying you are a hopeless dumbass, step down before you do any more damage.

This all started when the Vacant Lott brought us all on his stroll down memory lane, stating that we'd all be better off had the segrationist candidate had won. Have you read the 9 planks of the Dixiecrat ticket of 1948? The RATS have and they're to make sure that we all know about it. Lott's guilt should be worth more to the RATS now than anything they could have hoped for. Now, they'll feel emboldened to obstruct with filibusters against any legislation that the evil GOP Majority puts up. And the GOP will get nothing substantive done, again blowing a majority. The Lott will indeed be stepping down as leader but remain in the Senate IMO.

LOL!
That's funny.
Don't misunderstand, if it were over a legitimate charge I would be calling for him to go also. And I hate Trent Lott, I really do, but fair is fair. He's not a racist, so why legitimize the charge?
I wouldn't want people who knew I was innocent branding me as a political calculation either.
I wonder how the pious ones here would handle it if they were in Trent's shoes?

Good grief. Segragationist. Segragationist. Segragationist. I'm so tired it still doesn't look correctly spelled to me.

Exactly.
The idea that he would throw away the Rep Senate majority out of spite just because he could no longer be the majority leader is beyond self-serving...it shows a total lack of character.
I can hardly believe he would make such a contemptable threat.... I need to see some confirmations of this report.

Wrong!!! Lott is going to plead his case next week on BET. I am sure when he is done, they will want to change MLK day to Trent Lott day.
That is how delusional this man is.
To: Bluntpoint
I'm glad that yours was the first post I read on this thread.
It's a great metaphor for politics.
Trenty is exhibiting yet more 'leadership'.
Ick.
