He only had a six months whack at it and managed to pass a budget and a tax cut... I'd consider that somewhat successful...

Lott said that when he thinks of the Strom Thurmond of 1948, he thinks of "strong national defense, economic development, balanced budgets, and opportunity and [that's what I was referring to in the speech].

That's a load of crap! Lott would have preferred the Republican Dewey if that was the case. There was absolutely no other reason the Dixiecrats existed other than to stop integration, none. That's an indisputable historical fact - and Lott is lying when he says otherwise.

Actually to many of us, it seems like many of you have just reverted back to your Dixie Crat past. Fond memories of the good old days huh boys?

LOL! Who is us Dave?

And what is with you people that see racist behind every corner and between every line of type?

Forgetting your Dixie Crat smoke, looking at this country now, I would consider American 50 years ago to be a much better country than what we currently have now.

Even with the few Dixie Crats as you call them in the past, I still appreciate the older morals of America, even with the few blemishes, Going back just 50 years, I appreciate the safe cities when no one ever heard of thousands of routine drive by shootings and insane daily murders.

I appreciate the old America of 50 years ago that wasn't being invaded by millions of people illegally that have no respect for our laws. America of 50 years ago would have never put up with it.

I appreciate the old America, where divorce was almost unheard of and most kids had parents that gave a damn.

I appreciate the old America where strangers said thank you and neighbors helped each other.

I appreciate the old America 50 years past where American's were generally a United People, not splintered into races with hyphenated names where most people didn't see racist behind every corner. Where most everyone spoke English and it was just an accepted way. Where legal immigrants were proud as hell just to be here and to be just like American's.

Was America perfect 50 years ago? No. But it is much better than what we have now.

Fond memories of the good old days

Yes Dave, since I am not a politically correct product, I have fond memories of the good old days. I am sure you can't relate.

What about the other 50 or so Republican Senators that have elected Lott Senate Majority Leader for the 105th, 106th, 107th, and just last month to the 108th sessions ....... Do they have any blame in selecting such a nimcompoop.....

Yes. The GOP isn't called the Stupid Party without merit.

I wouldn't go that far in relation to Byrd but I would venture he's still a bit of a racist...

This is interesting. Tell me more. What was the Dixie Crats strategy for drawing votes away from the socialist Wallace. What you're saying is something to the effect of Sen Bob Smith would draw votes away from people who otherwise would vote for Sen Paul Wellstone. It doesnt compute.

Thurmonds stated reason for running was to prevent either Dewey or Truman from winning and throwing the election into the House of Representatives.

Granted. Far be it from me to not give credit where credit is due.

But he's not doing so hot currently...did ya notice? ;-)

Thank you for the conversation, sir (have you been takin' nice pills, or somethin'? ;-)

Have a nice evening!

December 10th WH briefing

Q Can you tell us now whether or not --

MR. FLEISCHER: I think that from the President's point of view, Senator Lott has addressed this issue. He has apologized for this statement, and the President understands that that is the final word from Senator Lott in terms of the fact that he said something and has apologized for it.

Q Senator Lott's final word was that the policies that Strom Thurmond supported have been discarded, that they're discarded policies. He didn't say they were immoral, he didn't say they were wrong, he simply said they were discarded. Does the President believe that Senator Lott, given this most recent action and given the fact that he published a regular column in a newsletter for years of the Conservative Citizens Council, an openly white supremacist group, is the best person to lead the Republican Party in the United States Senate?

MR. FLEISCHER: Terry, I can only say that the President, as several Democrats up on Capitol Hill, have all said, Senator Lott has apologized. And I think that speaks for itself on this matter.

LBJ might have fought to end segregation but he did it only for his party's purpose and that was:

"I'll have those niggers voting Democratic for the next 200 years."
Lyndon B. Johnson

There really are very few heros that are not tainted by America's past.

(I love the "Whole Cloth" kind, don't you?)

Best regards!

Oh, come on! The Democrats have proved that you can make the ridiculous reality!

If you only the job I was offered and who it was for, you'd understand...

I think you had better go and read the Ari Fleisher WH briefing of a week ago.

Do you know what propaganda is? Ari said what he needed to say then with Bush assuming that Lott would repair the damage.

I'll support that: Trent comes out and we can all say his statements were his "projecting" during his struggle against his true self.

At the next press conference he should wear a short-sleeved, ribbed, mock turtleneck and that stupid cowboy hat he took to visit Bush in Crawford with.
