Trent Lott, in a conference call with 27 GOP Senate Republicans today, said that he would leave the Senate if forced from the Leader position.
Jonathan Karl said three or four of the Senators viewed this as "blackmail," but that the majority still support Lott and want him to continue as Leader.

Staying positive on FR is mostly a challenge for me and believe me I absolutely love a challenge... its a character flaw I got from having a father that I absolutely detested... my only defense was my use of words...
AHHHHHH a kindred spirit. But my main defense was comedy, making fun of myself mostly. Just within the last 10 years have I graduated to debate.

It's the ONLY positive solution possible.Apparently not if the CNN and NBC are to be trusted.
But in the interest of truth I am compelled to post this quote from the Washington Post:
A source close to Lott dismissed the scenario, saying, "it would be a cold day before Trent Lott gives his seat to a Democrat governor."
Will that win points with the anti-Lottites?
HA!
To: Sabertooth
Are you saying Lott has been a good Majority Leader? As compared to whom?
To: marajade
you are most powerfull when you are positive.

Haven't you heard? They have been standing up and putting forth the Byrd issue... but the media and the Dems don't care if an absolute racists is among their own...

Now, suddenly it's breaking news. Hmmm. Yes because Lott opened his fat mouth and uttered some inane things and failed to apologize. The failure to apologize led some to believe that he meant what he said. That made the earlier story relevant. There are tons of stories floating around about most of the leaders. They are not published unless they have news value. When Lott expressed questionable comments, that made the other story relevant.

Didn't Lott look so fierce todayprotecting his own worthless hide?At the podium, Lott conveyed the intensity of a 260 pound fullback bulldozing toward the end-zone. What a warrior...
Meanwhile, at the Clinton Impeachment trial he did his best impression of a sickly Shirley Temple...
If Freepers are noting Lott's new found testosterone at the press conference, surely some of his Senate colleagues must also be rolling their eyeballs about it as well. Will we see a "new" tougher Lott in the Senate from now on??
Naah...

The Dixiecrats were really a plot to drain votes from the Wallace campaign.
Those wouldn't have been segregationist votes, would they?
To: MHGinTN
WADR, my friend, was Thurmond's Dixiecrat campaign born of segr. or racism? That is the good old day we were harkened back to...again.
God's speed to all...I...must.....get.......sl..e..e....p.

anti-Lottites The key for Lott is to avoid "anti-Lottites = anti-Luddites" becoming an accurate equation.

Welcome and do try to stay out of trouble...

What the heck does Keyes have to do with anything?
Your first address to me on this thread was a personal attack.
I think I was kind in my response to your rudeness.
To: Texasforever
Well lets compare him to Tom Daschle.
Trent Lotts ACU lifetime rating = 93%
Tom Daschles lifetime ACU rating is X-rated and can not be posted on a family friendly conservative? website.

I like it! I can hear the tirade from byrdbrain already. Time to stop playing nicey nicey with the despotic democrats.

As compared to whom?
As compared to the demands of the time in which we live.
To: marajade

Under the circumstances, he's been ok.He kept Clinton off guard, roped him into cutting capital gains taxes in 1997, neutered him from '98 to 2000, and got Bush's tax cuts through a hostile Senate. His job isn't set the pace and play smash mouth. It requires...pragmatism.His is not the Bob Dole kind, either.
I do know he supports Bush, is the strongest advocate for major tax cuts in the Senate and he knows how to make deals happen. He is Bush's man.

Posting to you cause you're the last one up. Nothing personal. Comments in passing. Lott is not a bigot. If Lott is queer, it's the first I've heard of it, and things like that usually get around. Especially so in a small State. I never heard any rumors, unlike some politicans I could name, but won't. Black colleges in Ms., never had a better friend than Lott. That's all for me, I'm outta here. Goodnight to ya.
