LOTT THREATENS TO QUIT THE SENATE IF FORCED FROM LEADERSHIP
Newsnight with Aaron Brown | 12/13/2002 | Jonathan Karl

Posted on 12/13/2002 7:26:54 PM PST by sinkspur

Trent Lott, in a conference call with 27 GOP Senate Republicans today, said that he would leave the Senate if forced from the Leader position.

Jonathan Karl said three or four of the Senators viewed this as "blackmail," but that the majority still support Lott and want him to continue as Leader.

It was a stupid statement, which was rightfully interpreted as an endorsement of institutionalized racism and state-sponsored terror, which Jim Crow was, damnit.

Yep and now we have state-sponsored terror of another kind. The terrorism of branding any dissenting opinion as racist. A brand which carries the professional lynching for anyone that carries it even if falsely applied. There is Racism "goin' on around here" but it sure as hell is not coming from Lott.

People don't all immediately realize something is wrong - especially when the establishment supports the action.

People grow up and learn and change their ideas - but it is at their own speed.

Look at how cruel children are in elementary school - they shun others, they say hateful things. Then, as they grow older they realize those things were hurtful to others and they begin to see the other side. Once they see the other side, their actions become kinder. This is maturing and growing up.

It is horribly wrong to discard a man's reputation and all current actions and go back years to find an action you disagree with and thrash him on it. This means all must live a perfect life are they are sacrificed when a sacrifice is needed.

Why is this action of going back years to find fault not horrible when an action that was done back then was an acceptable action by society?

With the reparations debates coming up do you think whites are going to be able to sweep all of this under the rug ? It's good to have it come out now, before the race hucksters control the debate. This is a lot bigger than most people realize.

" ... shoot, we even forced him to blackmail his colleagues..."

I thought it had already been proven in this thread that that wasn't true... why would repeat it?

"He didn't try to keep me out of his fraternity. It is those who he tresspassed against that have need to forgive him, and he has need to seek their forgiveness."

And, knowing the Lott as we do, he will seek their forgiveness with all kinds of bad, RAT-bent 'civil-rights' legislation like set-asides and Lord knows what else. And, now the other GOP Senators and Bush will have to go along with it or else. This is the tip of the proverbial iceberg. We will pay for the Lott's latest blunder over and over and over again with warped-RAT legislation to atone for the Lott.

(Not *all* civil rights legislation is created to accomplish it's stated purpose)

I agree...I don't think Brownback, Nickles, Santorum or any of them have the skills needed to be effective in this Senate.

Which is why Lott's getting eaten alive in an unreal way.

He will be the most effective Senate Leader for Bush.

WE NEED A REAL SENATE LEADER TO RISE UP NOW. Lott can take his damn threats and go back to Mississippi. He's as bad as the dems.

If you don't think the Democrats aren't searching every nook and cranny for dirt on all the possibilities of a replacement for Lott you're naive.

If this stupid gossip forces Lott out no one will be safe. They will be looking at their back ground clear back to grade school.

Think about it, they no sooner got rid of Newt until they were gunning for Livingston. If anyone thinks getting rid of Lott will be the end of it, have another think coming.

This isn't about anything but the DemocRATS and power. They can't stand being in the minority and will do anything.. And I mean anything.

Why dont you admit that Lott did wrong. He admitted it himself. Somehow you cant get to that point. Wonder why?

He did wrong. Why can't you accept his apology, as our President has? Somehow you can't get to that point. Wonder why?

"True, but a real trial with the truth brought out would have been kinda nice."

And the public outrage would have caused the dems to vote against Clinton.

They wouldn't have had any other choice. It would have been self-defense. What prevented this from happening was the 1,000 FBI files in the possession of Bubbette!,and Bubba-1's stated "scorched earth" position. He even sent Stephanolopis out on the talk show circuit to talk about it.

Who are the number who protested in the Conference Call? McCain? Chaffee?

The ones we regularly complain about here on FR as cooperating with the Dems, I am sure.

Careful there, you're getting a little defensive. And per usual, you changed the subject, again.....

I just wish he'd have had this much sack four years ago.

EXACTLY. This may, literally be the first really gutsy thing he has ever done as Leader. If he had this kind of courage in steering conservative legislation, I'd lie down in traffic for him.

That is precisely what Pat Buchanan said tonight on Hannity and Colmes, and he hasn't much that much sense in years.

Shoot, Lott's supporters here on FR have been waving that sword around for 24 hours..if you think Lott didn't do the same in his conversations today, you are being naive, to say the least.
