LOTT THREATENS TO QUIT THE SENATE IF FORCED FROM LEADERSHIP

Trent Lott, in a conference call with 27 GOP Senate Republicans today, said that he would leave the Senate if forced from the Leader position.

Jonathan Karl said three or four of the Senators viewed this as "blackmail," but that the majority still support Lott and want him to continue as Leader.

One other thing, remember when Jim Jeffords tried to barter his position with President Bush? Bush let him walk rather than have terms dictated by Jeffords. Don't think it won't happen with Lott, too.

And we're well rid of Jeffords too. If Lott decides to throw a hissy fit and leave the senate and we lose control of it again, that will just give the 'rats two more years to obstruct and alienate even more voters for the next election.

I'd rather keep control, believe me, but not at the expense of our integrity. The 'rats are the party of look the other way because he's OUR guy. We're better than that.

What about the other 50 or so Republican Senators that have elected Lott Senate Majority Leader for the 105th, 106th, 107th, and just last month to the 108th sessions ....... Do they have any blame in selecting such a nimcompoop.....

As soon as all the "little women" here bought into Sharpton's decision about what was going on in Lott's head, reason fled. Self righteous blather and the lynching of Lott for crimes against humanity will carry over onto the Pubbies in general. Obviously only racists would elect Lott to be their leader.

CNBC is also reporting that Lott is refusing to leave and that Lott has basically dared fellow republicans to throw him out. CNBC is reporting the white house wants Lott out but that senators need to do it.

The GOP appears to be such a bunch of sore, spineless, STUPID losers.

The very fact that Trent Lott said what he did and has led this thread where we're tearing each other apart is proof he is a stupid jerk. The question now is do we want a stupid jerk as the "face" of the Republican Senate.

Folks, y'all got to face it. Anyone alive in the Southern States prior to around 1970 was a segregationist. Right wrong or indifferent it is a fact. You can look into the background of any white Southerner that was old engough to know what was going on around him or her and you will find something that they said or did about segregation. It is a simple fact.

All college fraternites were segregated, they still are today. Sure, you'll find a token black here and there but the blacks know that they are not welcome in most fraternities and they go else where. Why do you think we still have "historically black" colleges? You think that you have to look in some old year books and you see some black faces? They are still black and will remain so. North or South.

The South and the Southern people have come a long way since then. Turning the Senate over to Tom Daschel is not a solution to Lott not looking before he lept.
