Trent Lott, in a conference call with 27 GOP Senate Republicans today, said that he would leave the Senate if forced from the Leader position.
Jonathan Karl said three or four of the Senators viewed this as "blackmail," but that the majority still support Lott and want him to continue as Leader.
No he is fighting back and I say more power to him. If I wanted to bow down to the poverty pimps and race whores I would be a democrat. Maybe you should think about what your actual motives are yourself.
No, he's just effed conservatives who have to battle the 'racist, Nazi' b.s. we get when out on the front lines.
Why this comes as a surprise to anybody is beyond me. And I don't believe he threatened anything. He simply elucidated the facts of life.
I am amazed that so many Republicans (on this forum) are so willing to eat their own.
Maybe the Republicans could find a better majority leader for the Senate, but these Rep. Senators who are not defending him today just three weeks ago re-elected Lott to the majority leader post.
The Republicans need to present a united front against the shrill race baiters. If they are concerned about the long-term effects and loss of the black vote (like the Republicans ever had any significant numbers of black folks voting for them anyway), they should remember that actions speak louder than words. The Republicans should advance race relations in this country and run on their accomplishments instead of running away from race baiters in the Democrat party and their media lackeys.
I had no doubt that Lott's loyalty lies only with Lott.
50/50 with Cheney and a REAL Majority leader is still a Majority.
If Lott feels this way, then the Pubs should call his bluff. And if he leaves, he should forever be shunned by all LOYAL republicans. Let him live the the democrats he sooo loves.

It's really ironic that the bulk of the people here have been complaining that Lott is too weak, that he doesn't have any backbone. Well, now that he's starting to demonstrate some backbone by asserting his intent to stay as Senate Majority Leader, they're eating him alive. Just like a bunch of jackals!
I never said he was a racist, just a complete idiot. As to why it came up just now? Well, you see, there was this really idiotic Senator from Mississippi who stood there and opened his mouth...

I questioned your intelligence for your apparent belief that Lott should resign because of these false accusations.
Now you ask me what the accusations are.
One of us is screwing around with the truth.
simply because lott opened his mouth and inserted his foot now.
How about next week, then?
Maybe one that is publicly flayed alive for something he did NOT do. I will have even less respect for him if he doesn't resign.
