Just so people here understand that Thurmond's run for the White House had nothing to do with lowering taxes or reducing government spending.
2) Do you actually think that anyone who disagrees with you is an "idiot", "moron" and "blind"?
3) Why do you keep insisting that is Lott lets another senator lead, we "lose the Senate"? Only an idiotic, blind moron would think that.
If Lott steps down, the controversy is over. If Dems overplay their hand and call for his removal from the Senate, we, as the majority, will first demand the Democrats remove Byrd and Hollings. Issue done.
Whether or not Lott is a senator is for the state of Mississippi to decide. Whether or not he should represent the entire GOP is for the GOP to decide.
Lott used to be a dem. Guess what party wanted segregation? That's right, DEMS.
People change. Hillary used to be a Goldwater Republican. So What? Trent Lott is an adult now. He was 22 at the oldest when he was in college. I can't even remember the bone-headed things I did when I was 22. But I am sure that if I ran for office, people like you would dig up any crap they could. Trent Lott is a gentleman right now, and a good public servant. He apologized and explained himself numerous times, but i don't see you posting any of those transcripts here. No, you keep going back in time to dig up dirt.
States have no rights, only powers. They don't get those powers, for the most part, from the Federal government, nor from the Federal Constitution. They get them from the people of the state via the state Constitution. While I oppose the states having those particular powers, I don't see any power given to the federal government, any branch, to take them away if the people of the state give them to the state government, unless they violate the rights of citizens of the United States as protected by the bill of rights and the 14th amendment. Even then, only the "guarantee of republican government" clause (Art IV Sec 4 US Constitution) gives the federal government any power in the matter.
The point in this case is separation of powers, not "states rights".
Didn't need to dig that up - it just kind of rolled off my tongue, but it's all true.
Now, the evil part proving she was already a hardcore kneejerk loathesome Liberal Democrat at that early time - she did not offer to clean it up!
I know what Trent Lott did one week ago. He intentionally praised a party that's only reason for existence was to retain segregation and keep blacks as second-class citizens.
Trent Lott is a gentleman right now, and a good public servant. Somehow I missed how Lott was a good public servant. Was it when he scuttled impeachment, or caved to every Clinton initiative, or entered a power-sharing agreement with Daschle, or allowed Jeffords to give the Senate to the Dems, or created this useless firestorm which has plunged the Republican Party into damage-control mode and emboldened a moribund Democratic party and Congressional Black Caucus. Why are we blowing years of political capital to save this toupeed mediocrity's hide?
My desire???
Oh the humanity!
Amen. I am deeply ashamed of my party tonight.
HELLOOOO AND AMEN. Thanks for perfectly explaining the situation and the solution. Lott has now become the official anti-republican sound-byte for the libs. As for conservative supporters, Lott is perceived as an ineffectual Majority Leader, his last stint at that job proved his inability to lead (impeachment, anyone?). To the last group of voters, the ever frustrating moderates, Lott is the sum-total of the next two years of letterman, leno, saturday night live, jennings, rather, brokaw, couric, etc. He should have been dealt with by the republican leadership when the truth of the Senate trial of WJC came out. His time as leader has come and gone. Let Mississippi voters decide his fate as their Senator. He sealed his own fate as Majority Leader last Saturday, as far as I'm concerned.
You're saying that, even though HE put himself and the party in this position, he expects US to go down with him? To satisfy him?
Gee, I didn't realize Trent Lott was bigger than the Republican agenda.
And don't worry about it: a LOT of people have disagreed with me today.......LOL.
