What do you mean by that? He was a segregationalist. It doesn't matter what else Strom ran for. You are only as good as your weakest link. That would not be good for America. Keeping down an entire race of people is not what America is all about. What did he say? From what I've heard, he merely said that- had we elected Strom Thurmond to the presidency, we might not have had to suffer through all the problems of the past fifty years!

He's righ, though we probably would have had different and even more difficult problems, but we'll never know, will we? Like any good, waffling politician, he avoided making a definitive statement, leaving the interpretation of his comment wide open to whatever pet conjecture any media whore might have.

Trent Lott is a poor excuse for a Republican and should have been booted out of the party leadership long ago. But I still hate to see him deposed by this Liberal witch hunt. P.T. Barnum is supposed to have said something about suckers being born every minute. He also admonished the faithful to 'never give a sucker an even break.' To allow the Democrats to bring Lott down is tantamount to giving them a whole lot more than an 'even' break.
