The Lott Gaffe & A Whole Lot Liberal Media Bias
Media Research Ceneter ^ | 12-13-02 | Republican_Strategist

Posted on 12/12/2002 9:30:18 PM PST by Republican_Strategist

I’d like to make my position clear that I believe Lott should have resigned a long time ago rather than this latest gaffe, which exposes that Democrats are an ideologically twisted bunch that rely on propagandizing & fear mongering because their political agenda is repulsive. Lott is too conciliatory and he isn’t conservative to my liking.

Rush Limbaugh laid out precisely what Lott’s weak-kneed approach got him, go here.

In Lott Case, Networks Find Conservative Scolding Newsworthy

With conservatives scolding Trent Lott for his suggestion that the country “wouldn’t have had all these problems over all these years” if Strom Thurmond had won his 1948 segregationist presidential bid, the networks decided that what conservatives think was worthy of showcasing. ABC and NBC reporters failed to label the NAACP as liberal in highlighting its demand that Lott step down, but tagged the conservatives. CBS’s Dan Rather imputed great respectability to the NAACP by describing it as “the oldest civil rights group in the United States.”

Media Hypocrisy: Skip Clinton Praising a Segregationist

The media’s hypocrisy. They’ve pounced on Trent Lott, but on National Review Online Mark Levin noted how they didn’t care when just six weeks ago Bill Clinton praised J. William Fulbright, a racist, segregationist Senator, for urging Americans to be “utopian in our values and vision." In 1993, Clinton awarded Fulbright a Presidential Medal of Freedom and gushed: “The American political system produced this remarkable man, and my state did, and I'm real proud of it."

Networks Focus on Trent Lott for Second Day

The networks focused on the Trent Lott story for a second straight day on Wednesday night and continued to treat as wise sages conservatives who criticized Lott. While ABC’s Peter Jennings cited only how Ted Kennedy called his remarks “an irresponsible salute to bigotry,” CBS’s Bob Schieffer managed to use the term “conservative” three times in his story without once uttering the word liberal even as he cited Kennedy and John Kerry. CNN earned kudos as Aaron Brown balanced his interview with a Lott critic with a segment featuring a Lott defender and Jonathan Karl recalled Robert Byrd’s remarks from last year.

How can anyone continue to deny the Liberal Media is beyond reproach.

OK, the liberal media is biased. Ok, the democrats are hypocrites.

Now how does that make Lott fit to lead the republican Senate?

Are we going to allow hypocrites and idiots to lead us just because the democrats can get away with it? What does that make us?

It makes us stupid as rocks to drive Lott out over this issue.

Trent Lott is unfit to lead the Senate since he evidently lacks the qualities of a great leader. The liberal media be damned. A great leader would survive the liberal bonfire of the vanities and conservatives would fight for him passionately were he to come under fire but here conservatives have made it loud and clear Lott is not one of us. Its time for him to go.

Yes and when they fire Lott he will retire. 99 percent of Bosses who get demoted retire if they can. Lott can. The Democrat Governor of Mississipi will appoint a Democrat to replace him. That will make the Senate with Jeffords 50-50. All Daschle has to do is get Chaffee,or Snowe, or McCain to jump to the Democratic side and Daschle is Majority leader for the next two years.

The choice is Lott or Daschle... Nice to see you are for removing Lott. The odds are 65-35 that your alternative is Daschle.

Who's driving him out?

I just don't think he should be leading the pack. He should be a cog in the wheel and not the lynch pin.

Don't make me re-write this:

The Killing Of Matthew Shepard Was A Free Political Commercial

Actually, I believe it IS time to re-write this post. I think I'll call it "The Attack On Trent Lott Was A Free Political Commercial".

You do understand that the Left is renting space in your head with this phony & completely free ad campaign that's worth millions of dollars to their agenda?

I guess it's the least that PeterDanTomKatie can do for their side after the horrific "November 5th Massacre". ;-)

See #5.

Most of the people on this site can't even see what is going on. When they wake up to find two more Judge Souters on the Supreme court they will figure it out.

Up until the mid 80's the Fairness doctrine applied to Radio and TV. Under the Fairness Doctrine shows like Limbaugh and Hannity were illegal. They have been legal for only about 17 years. Back in the 70s and 80s I would have loved to do a Rush type show. I owned the stations. But it was illegal to do such a show. Reagan was a master of working around the Fairness doctrine. But even then he was limited to a show of 3.5 minutes a day and he could not mention any current events situations. He had to talk in generalities.

There is no doubt in my mind that if the Democrats can get liberals on the court a new fairness doctrine will be declared by the courts. If it is applied to the internet, Free Republic would become illegal too.

If Lott is not loyal enough to stick it out if he isn't maintained as the leader, then he is not worth having in the Senate at all.

It amazes me that everyone is sooooooo concerned about bruising Lott ego, to the point that they would let him lead the entire Republican party down the drain just so he doesn't turn into a Benedict Arnold.

Frankly I'd be willing to call Lotts bluff. I don't think he wants his name tarnished forever like that traitor Jeffords. If Lott does that, then Lott's name will replace Clymer's as a description of a certain part of the anatomy.

The Pubs need to sit down with Lott and convince him that it is time to let the Republicans have new leadership. If Lott is too big of a baby to do step down gracefully, then let him resign the Senate and let the chips fall where they may. At least the republican party can maintain some dignity going into the next election.

That's exactly correct...We are talking about some of the most sensitive egos in the world here and I have no doubt that Lott wiil leave the Senate. I would do the same.

All Daschle has to do is get Chaffee,or Snowe, or McCain to jump to the Democratic side and Daschle is Majority leader for the next two years.

If Daschle can get Chaffee or Snow or McCain to jump ship, then by golly Daschle deserves to be Senate Majority leader. At least he'd be effective. Lott couldn't get Jeffords to stay on. That was the first indication that Lott is not an effective leader.

BTW, what makes you think all three of those guys won't jump ship if Lott stays on as Majority Leader? What is Lott going to do to keep them in the party? Throw a birthday bash for them? Do you think an idiot like Lott is going to persuade them to stay after all the negative publicity the repulicans have gotten ofver this? I don't.

As a matter of fact, I believe that if Lott stays on, we are probably going to see AT LEAST 2 RINO's jump ship within the next year.

Wanna Bet?

This is so funny, in the manner of a wake. The NAACP is the oldest civil rights organization in the country. No kidding. Is Strom Thurmond the oldest United States Senator in the history of the country? Did he chase women? Did he catch some? Did Martin, Jesse and Ralph? Did a lot of people change the old ways, both black and white? And finally, isn't it about time that the country give up its self destructive racial obsession? Are there any arguments that we have not yet heard? Is it time for the racial careerists to retire with their riches? Is it time to let the oldest minority in the country compete with the newest?

This is not a question. It is time for Trent Lott, Robert Byrd, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Strom Thurmond, Tom Daschle, Roger Wilkins, and every other racist, real or imagined, in this country to exit the stage. Then perhaps it can be said, honestly, "Free at Last."

This post is one of the reasons I personally refer to the Republican Party as "the Stupid Party".

You're up against Nazis, dude. They have a plan, and if they get the power, you and I will be toast. The Tator is right, as usual.

Ok. Then Let Lott lead. If its the "Stupid Party" as you call it, then Lott is more than qualified to lead it into the new Century.

All Heil to our fearless leader Lott!

This little dance you two are doing is exactly why the Democratic Party is still thriving. Go ahead, attack each other why the Democrats keep blacks in line by painting republicans as racist and halt anything remotely politically from advancing.

Ok, so what is your solution. Just let Lott lead? Just pretend this never happened? Just bury your head in the sand?

Then perhaps it can be said, honestly, "Free at Last."

The democrats never want that song to be sung and it is evident that by voting 97% democrat, blacks don't either. Without the race issue democrats have nothing and they have parlayed that strategy into the most virulent form of racism this country has known since republicans ended slavery.
