He married an American woman (here in the U.S.) he'd met online and came over here to see. They've since had a child as well.
My thinking was he should have applied before they got married, but, in theory that really shouldn't matter.
Since 9/11 the usual peanut butter avalanche of bureaucratic paperwork takes even longer, and according to him, costs more too.

Re your #60. "Why make the assumption he isn't"

If you recall, my first question was :Is he here legally?

What state do you live in, that you do not automatically question an immigrants legality?

I live in a border state, sort of.In Florida, any Cuban is assumed to be here legally.Any other "immigrant" nationality,is now generally considered suspect. That includes Canadians,Palestinians,Saudi,Mexican, any number of South Americans,Nigerian, Somalian etc.

Before you decry me as "racist",ponder the south Florida "Haitian run for illegal immigration" widely publicised just before the elections last month.

We have a large cottage industry going on with companies "contracting" labor from fly by night employment agencies who supply manual laborers for less than half the cost of reputable and honest temporary labor firms.Since I have always kept in touch with such firms, as one never knows when a pink slip will appear, and I can not afford to go a week without paid employment,I may have a different view of the low-mid range labor market than do you.

It is the latest version of indentured servants, bondsman, and basically imported slave labor.

I wont even get into the other obviously criminal versions involving prostitution and drugs. That side may just be a little too ugly for you to consider.Even if you consider yourself set financially, life has a way of turning on a dime.If your investments go bad, you lose your job, and still have a lot of bills to pay...you may just find yourself trying to compete for a low wage job just to keep food on the table and a roof over your head.Unless you have a trust fund, I can promise you a rude awakening.

Welcome to Amerika!
