Frankly, I think the segregationist aspect of these comments are a gross extrapolation to begin with, and I'm no friend of Trent Lott anyway. But I think Rev. Peterson has it right: this is Democratic argle-bargle designed to bring down some Republican -- ANY Republican -- since they can't touch the president.
The GOP caucus in the Senate had the chance to find a new Majority Leader right after the election. Instead, they re-seated Lott. Now, if they fire him, the Democrats win; even if Lott leaves, the stain of "racism" will linger. If he stands and fights, the charge will surface again and again, despite the blatant hypocrisy of the Left and THEIR racist "champions."
The problem here is that Lott never should have been re-elected Senate Majority Leader.

I am glad to know that there are differing opinions within Project 21........ I hate "cookie cutter" statements..... this press release shows several different views and also shows you promote discussion within your organization.........
Thanks so much for the ping.......

Lott said the same damn thing in 1980. How many times does he have to say it before we say we believe him?
To: AppyPappy
Has Lott said what problems he was talking about?
To: GraniteStateConservative
Nope. That's why I can't understand the uproar.
To: AppyPappy
It because he hasn't. He believes that Thurmond's election would have taken care of problems we have today. What problems, Sen. Lott, and how would Thurmond have taken care of them?
The issue is that Lott defended a view that Thurmond won't even defend-- his candidacy for president in 1948.
To: steveegg
He doesn't have to resign from the Senate, though no doubt the Dems would be delighted if he did. Lott simply has to step down as Majority Leader.
To: GraniteStateConservative
I think he was being nice. And in truth, he was smart enough NOT to say anything offensive. If Lott were a Democrat, we wouldn't be talking about this.
To: AppyPappy
The uproar came about only after Mary Landrieu won to keep the Pubbie advantage at 51-49. It seems that there's a DemonRAT governor down in Mississippi, who would duly appoint a DemonRAT to Cave-A-Lott's seat if somehow he were ousted; and there's a RINO who would leap if it meant giving El Diablo D'Asshole an illegitimate majority again.

He doesn't have to resign from the Senate, though no doubt the Dems would be delighted if he did. File that under N for "No <expletive deleted>, Sherlock." It would seem that they have one and only one RINO ready to leap if it meant giving El Diablo D'Asshole the majority, and the removal of Cave-A-Lott would do just that.

Yup. If they succeeded in getting Lott ousted from the Senate and got Lincoln Chaffee to go Indy along with Johnny Mc Insane, guess who would be Majority Leader again? The Dems are just licking their chops thinking about how to make it come true.
To: Darklon
Of course he's not a racist. Lott just has a politically deaf tin ear.

This is about driving Trent Lott out of the Senate.
I can hear it now "If he's too racist to be a Majority Leader, he's too racist to be a Senator."
If Lott allows himself to be branded a racist by stepping down, he'll have to quit altogether, as Newt did, and as Livingston did.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT RACE, IT'S ABOUT POLITICS!

Actually, even with Cave-A-Lott around, having both Chafee Dish and McShame flip would give El Diablo D'Asshole an illegitimate majority again. Apparently, they can only get one of them.

Lott just has a politically deaf tin earAnd this has been well known for many years. Just look at previous posts (both mine and others) that describe Lott and incompetent to lead. Whether discussing taxes, spending, campaign finance reform....race...or any issue, he constantly fumbles the ball to the other team.
When we control the House, Senate, Presidency and Supreme Court, we should be on offense. It is a lot easier to score points on offense than defense. But Lott constantly creates a turnover and puts us on defense.
Bush and Hastert have to constantly adjust their game plan because of the known tendency of Lott to fumble the ball. In the locker room he may be a great teammate. But he is not the man to carry the ball in the game.

I'm tired of this crap about Lott. Too many people are twisting his words around and making him out to be a racist white boy.
Bullsh-t. Everybody knows what he was referring to with Thurmond's 1948 campaign, and it wasn't segregation. While I realize that he has to at least soothe some people, if I were him I wouldn't have even apologized for my remarks. I would have explained them instead. If that isn't good enough, then I wouldn't want your vote anyway.
Lott should remain Senate Majority Leader!
To: mhking
I think Lott will, right after Congress is in session again, decide to quietly resign the leadership.I think to do it NOW ,whilst the Commies , um,, er Democrats and their lapdogs demand it , would be counterproductive. Do I think Trent Lott screwed up? Yes. Do I think he has said enough about? Yes. Am I tickled McConell is now suggesting amendments to a censure call? You betcha.. I think that this tempest is about to VERY harshly rebound on the pot stirrers. What say you all?
