WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush said on Wednesday he had decided to make smallpox vaccine available to Americans on a voluntary basis to guard against a possible biological warfare attack.
"I think it ought to be a voluntary plan. ... I don't think people ought to be compelled to make the decision," Bush said in an interview with ABC television's Barbara Walters, a portion of which was broadcast on Wednesday.
Bush was expected to announce details of the plan later this week.
ABC said the vaccine would be given first to military personnel, then to emergency workers, including hospital employees, paramedics and police. It would be offered to the general public in 2004, when newer stocks of vaccine become available.
First Lady Laura Bush, asked in the interview how she would feel about her daughters taking the vaccine, said: "If the vaccine were available, which I think it will be, I would feel like that was certainly safe. ... I know there's a slight risk. That's what people will weigh."
Scientists say the smallpox vaccine, based on decades-old technology, presents a risk of side effects that include death in about one to two cases per million.
...or it just could be back then moms just said your not going to die, get over it, now go out and play.
Did you read the article? The vaccinations are going to be VOLUNTARY. And they're not going to be administered by soldiers knocking on people's doors, they're going to be administered at hosipitals and clinics.
Take a deep breath, and relax.
It's a factual history of the smallpox vaccine, and Dr. Hadwen was a highly respected physician and surgeon in his day, which was the late 1800's. The address was given on January 25th, 1896, during the Gloucester smallpox epidemic..
And what does he have to do with the material that I posted?
The graphs you posted shows a decline in deaths, not a decline in the incidence of disease. Obviously other factors than vaccines contributed to the decline in the mortality rate of those infected: better hygiene, better nutrition, better medical care etc.
Did you even bother reading my post? It IS Drs. Salk, Sabin and many others that have developed and worked with these vaccines that say they don't work as intended. Let me refresh your memory..

By all means, you are free to do what you wish. I'm not trying to prevent you or anyone else from getting the vaccine, just trying to provide information so that people can make informed decisions..
That's true, and I WOULD like to see data on incidence of disease, but I can't readily find anything close to thorough and unbiased information on that..
Could you provide me with a post number on that, as I don't recall ever seeing his name in any of the links or cites.
I've just found the quote from the GRAPHICAL EVIDENCE SHOWS VACCINES DIDN'T SAVE US, and yes, he is quoted by the author of the book Vaccination The "Hidden" Facts, by Ian Sinclair.
Sorry I didn't remember his name. However, as I've already demonstrated, it isn't only Dr. Weil saying that improved sanitation has been a major factor in the decline of disease...
