"Sprawl" is just a euphemism for government control.
Urban planners won't be happy until everyone lives downtown in Tokyo-style highrises and commutes to work by public transportation. Oh, yeah, don't forget the organic garden on the 3' by 4' balcony.
On the other hand, many will not be happy until every small town in America is a collection of low end employees working for a one-size-fits-all set of chain retail outlets.
When I think about the end result of the homoginization of America, I think about half vacant strip malls and an endless supply of chain stores. One town is exactly like the next one down the highway.
