What does it say about "his own society"-and ours-that the movement to oust him over this remark has went the way it has,versus any attempts-were there any?-to oust him for his handling of the trial of der slickmeister???

It says that the GOP was gutless in confronting Lott's gutlessness. In some ways, we deserve this.

Good point. The 108th Congress is not yet in session and the minority has scored the first political victory. We can assume that those "missing" FBI files are being dusted off and will come to bear on the next Republican considered for Lott's replacement. I have never been in favor of Lott, but to be chased out of office because of the demands by race baiters championing an obvious thoughtless and stupid remark is sickening! The Democrats prefer to censure for verbal stupidity rather than criminal enterprise; Their silence was evidenced during the Clinton administration.
