WHO WILL LEAD THE SENATE?-GOP Leaders Discussing How/Who Calls for Lott to Step Aside
The American Spectator ^ | Dec. 11, 2002 | The Washington Prowler

Posted on 12/11/2002 6:44:54 AM PST by ewing

Republicans on Capitol Hill and conservatives in Washington and around the country are discussing how best to call for Trent Lott's stepping aside as Senate Majority Leader.

According to a knowledgeable Senate source, GOP members of both houses are extremely concerned that Lott's comments have so derailed the momentum gained from the 2002 elections that it would be impossible come January to make numerous confirmations for the executive branch, begin planning a legislative agenda that includes accelerating the Bush tax cuts and pushing through a prescription drug plan for seniors.

Even more upsetting to Republicans is that realization that Lott's comments may make it virtually impossible to bring a number of potentially controversial judicial nominations to the Senate floor successfully.

This is why conservatives are losers, it's attitudes like yours that we have to take the high road when the competion plays to win, conservatives play to lose. It's imbicilic to to act like this. Why don't you just vote for the RAT next time. And I hope Lott is not moved by you people, I'm sick of the GOP being such idiots.

You're wrong....MiaT is spot on.....Lott is the issue..and we should clean up our own house.....it was the GOP that forced Nixon to resign, unlike the Dems who sold their souls to Clinton in defending him, and look at the price they are paying...

I agree that conservatives eat their own, but unless Lott stands up and goes on multiple programs and defends himself this will continue. We conservatives will always be held to higher standard than anyone else, as long as the mainstream media remains liberal.

I agree with you, but, think about this: how stupid can those RATS who are calling for Lott's head be? You'd think they would want him around to keep taking advantage of. Makes you wonder if we will hear anything from the Senate leadership who know his true stripes.

That's the problem. Dasshol and company want a weakened Lott as Majority Leader. Did you notice that Dasshol personally gave Lott a pass and with a smerk on his face I might add? Translation is that they want a damaged Lott, not a destoryed one.

Jeffords put out some feelers recently about coming back to the GOP if he could retain his current committee chair. I know that a lot of Republicans scoffed at the idea and I very well may be flamed for this but the fact is if Lott resigns we need another seat to protect our majority from defection. If Jeffords were to publicly admit that he made a mistake in leaving, I'd be willing to hold my nose and bring him back in. IMHO if we decide that Lott has to go, then we've got to pick another seat from somewhere, I personally don't want to be held hostage by Cheffe or McCain. Might as well just give Dasshol the Senate back now.

There are 3 choices here as I see it.

1. A damaged Lott as Majority Leader and risk the entire party being tainted as biggots

2. Give the Dems Lotts seat and the Senate by electing another Leader, watching Lott resign from the Senate altogether, and then watch with horror as Cheffe or McCain give our Senate back to Dasshol

3. Hold our nose and protect ourselfs from defection after a Lott resignation by bring Jeffords back in and elect a new Majority Leader, who's going to be much stronger politically than Lott would otherwise would be.

As I see it from a pure political point of view, 3 is our best choice.

J.C. Watts Jr...

You all must be from Nebraska, what with calling for J.C. Watts, Ron Paul and Tom DeLay for Senate Majority Leader.

News flash! Unlike Nebraska's unicameral legislature, the Congress of the United States is bicameral, consisting of the House and Senate.

J.C., much as I love him, is no longer a member of the House of Representatives. Ron Paul and Tom DeLay are both members of the House, not the Senate.

It's the Senate leadership we're debating about, thus rendering J.C., Ron, and Tom ineligible.

Howsomeever, Don Nickles of Oklahoma would (IMHO) make a fine Majority Leader.

Don clangs when he walks.

Jeffords would have to get on his knees, beg, and kiss his own arse in front of the TV cameras to come back after what he put us through last time.

Daschle's for Lott.

That should give Trent's pals pause.

But it doesn't, apparently.

You got that right. Sad is a good word. Also, STUPID, ASININE, SELF SERVING. Lott broke no law except for the law of PC. The conservative/republicans/libertarians, calling for his head are doing exactly what they fault him for. Not standing up to the rabid liberal RATS. There are a myriad of agendas at play in this attempt to railroad a senator out of office. Republicans who contribute to the RAT feeding frenzy do so at their own peril. Losers all.

Hutchinson voted against wittnesses during impeachment.

Guess I need to shake it off, but I'm having a hard time doing so.
