On the other hand, a lot of the hatred towards fundies is that they are, on the whole, right-- that is, they are often proclaiming the Gospel, whereas much of Christianity has been corrupted.
They've earned it with me. Being told many times that I am going to hell for my religious beliefs is not a way to gain my admiration. I also like the folks in the county neighboring mine who vote down liquor by the drink every two years but also support a thriving apple brandy trade. Living with fundie Baptists is more amusing than hate-inspiring, though. Must be my good nature.
I am a Fundamentalist and then some. I know many other Fundies. And quite a few well known leaders who have published books, articles or other position papers.
I have never found one that tried to attache any kind of keeping the law to salvation (Legalist.)
I do find that legalism in other mainline religions that count on man's works to earn some kind of (False salvation).
Every Fundy I have ever known, and I have known many, the small and the great, and I have never heard ONE attach the works of the law or man to salvation.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves:
it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
