LOTT SAID IT BEFORE (Drudge Siren)

After a fiery speech by Thurmond at a Mississippi campaign rally for Ronald Reagan in November 1980, Lott, then a congressman, told a crowd in Jackson: "You know, if we had elected this man 30 years ago, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today."

When you lack ideas, as does Trent Lott you support the man. Many people see Lott’s comments as supporting the policies of segregation but Lott unable to deal with ideas simply sees a good man and a good man even with the wrong ideas is still a good man.

Exactly. Strom is a good man. When Armstrong Williams was a teenager, he approached Strom and asked him directly, "Are you a racist?" Strom replied that Armstrong should come to work for him when he graduated and find out. Armstrong did, and he will tell you that Strom is a good man. Read the FR post, Reports of Thurmond's demise are exaggerated", by Armstrong Williams, if you are not convinced.

If you are still not convinced, Williams also stated, "I actually liked the old guy. I really did. I thought this guy's pretty cool. I tell my brothers and my friends, I really like Ole' Strom."

If you are still not convinced, how about this by Williams: "... if most black South Carolinians still don't exactly like Thurmond, they don't hate him, either. That means they don't mobilize against him when it's campaign season -- which is one major reason Thurmond is currently in his eighth Senate term."

You can read Armstrong's columns at this link. Be sure to check out his archive.

Of course, Jesse Jackson, the master race-baiter, shake-down artist, adulterer, and generally sorry excuse for a human being, is not particularly fond of Williams. In his column, "Did Freedom Alone Pay A Nation's Debt?", Jackson, while discussing the financial incentive of being black in the reparations scam, quoted Williams in the following manner:

"It would literally pay to be black," says Armstrong Williams, a black conservative commentator who has just left the office of Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.). Williams is not for reparations. "Everybody and their momma would claim they were black."

That alone (the fact that Jackson is not fond of him) bears witness to the outstanding character of Armstrong Williams.

Regarding Lott, I believe he should stand his ground, raise his middle finger, and tell those sorry race-baiters to piss off, quit their whining, and get a life. The fact that Lott is a whimpy majority leader is another issue altogether. But, no worry. Daschle will work diligently to keep Lott in "power".

You think you apologized. For that bit of ignorance, I blame the limousine liberals, who've taught people that "if you were offended" is part of an apology.

Your effort at apology fell flat because it was conditional.

Apologies are unconditional by their nature.

You know, with all due respect, your true colors are so virulently statist and blinded by it, that this is the last time I will post to you until your arrogant, condescending personal attacks cease and you apologize. We're both opiniated and always at least 2 degrees apart, if not much, much more. So, be well. I have some dusting to complete.

The only guarantee in life is that your flesh will die and you will live eternally in Heaven with God or in hell without Him.

No, I'm demanding that he step down from leadership in favor of someone with some testicular fortitude.

Now you're acting like Barbra Streisand. And I'm sure your demands will be received with the same due respect.

Oh goodness the dreaded "statist" label. Is that worse than the "racist" label?

This isn't a liberal witch hunt, not for me. This is a Leadership purge and Lott started it, not me. He is the new tool, with variant reasonability, for the liberals to slam the GOP and conservatives with. The fact he will not be the new GOP Senate Majority Leader over this is his doing, not mine. He's not the topic on EVERY SINGLE CONSERVATIVE TALK SHOW the last 48 hours because of me. Laura Ingraham, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Hugh Hewitt, Michael Medved...none of them are me.

Poohbah no one is attacking you personally and it is not like you to do it either. I really hate to see this. There is no one here that would mind if Lott steps down but he most likely would leave the senate and to do so under this kind of bogus charge would be criminal.

Geez sinkspur get a grip. I never said he's a racist. He's stupid. Unfortunately that is the rule rather than the exception in the senate and government in general today. Certainly a stupid person is qualified to be a senator. But a stupid person is not qualified to lead the republican senate. We need someone with brains and Lott is not it.

You've obviously got a problem thinking this thing through. I guess you and Lott suffer from the same problem.

FBI Files are unfortunately probably only the tip of the iceberg for Trent. Sadly.

I wouldn't say it to begin with, and if I said something (twice at least) that was remotely that stupid, I would cma very efficiently if I ever expected to lead anyone ever again in a substantive way. Now, I just broke my new sink-rule not 30 minutes after I initiated it on myself. :)
