Very nice, non-condemning, loving, Christian reply.

Our church does not ever put up a Christmas tree... it is not Biblical and originally a pagan symbol. We are not so legalistic as to forbid a tree in our homes, its just that the church leadership feels they must adhere to the basics of our beliefs... which is to consult the Word on issues. So, the lack of a Christmas tree does not offend me at all. I appreciate all the symbolism in the card! I especially appreciate the beautiful scripture and would ask that those critical of the card, read the verse again and understand its meaning.

Christmas is the celebration of Jesus Christ's birth..the grand piano and a quote from the old testament does not suffice for this Catholic Christian not when my beliefs are attacked daily. Besides America is 90% Christian. It is a Joke.I'm not a Catholic (and seldom find myself in agreement with my Catholic relatives) but in this instance I am in 100% agreement. Chirst was born, taught us the true meaning of the scriptures, and died for our sins. This card is a joke!

So let me get this stright, if the card had included a verse from the New Testament, instead of the Old Testament everyone would be O.K. with this? But because an Old Testament verse is used your now questioning the man's faith?

I had no idea that starting this thread and posting links to the White House Chrismas Card would generate so much cross-fire. (But... this is F.R., so what the heck was I thinking!)
My intent was to simply share something I received with others that may not have gotten one.

Got mine last week. First time ever I've received a Christmas card from the White House. Hmmm... could it have something to do with my membership in the RNC??? :-)

It is a beautiful card and gesture. I guess some people will criticize that the card didn't say exactly what they wanted. There is a quote from the Old Testament.

Actually, you'll note that Bush was real specific and showed no shame in mentioning specifics about Islam. Why is he ashamed about mentioning Christ at Christmas? He mentioned Mohammed and Allah for Ramadan.
No Bush is not representing all Americans seriously. He is representing the followers of Islam and the Palestinian terrorists better than any American Christian.

I don't see any other religions taking their beliefs so lightly as the christians are. A suggested replacement verse:
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.
An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."

GW lives it. BWAHAHA! This statement needs a ping on the bull-meter. More like, GW HIDES it. Let me see, how exactly does he live it by his support for the use of existing stem cells from aborted unborn babies?

Hi rintense, What is wrong with these people? I have never read such nonesense. Many years ago, we sent cards to friends and about 15 years later, we learned one couple was Jewish but they never complained about getting a card from us because they knew it was from friends. That is what is important--sharing between friends!!!

How many cells from aborted fetuses have been harvested since GW has been President?
To: Redleg Duke
hehe. There WAS no "Christmas" then.
To: NY Catholic
Evidently you missed the bible verse on the card - Psalm 100:5.

This is amazing, I cannot believe some of the stuff I've read on this thread. IMHO, this sort of behavior says more about the level of their faith than it does the president's.
Everyday of his administration George Bush has demonstrated his personal commitment to Christ and the importance of faith in his private and public life. He has refused to speak ill of his opponents, he has defined the war on terrorism as one of good vs evil, he repeatedly encourages us to love others as we would like to be loved. The president begins each day in prayer and by reading the bible, two separate groups of staffers meet each week in the West Wing of the White House to pray and study the bible. He has worked to bring faith based ministries to the forefront through the establishment of a White House office and by acknowledging the value of their contributions. He leads by example, he unashamedly proclaimed the impact Jesus Christ has made on his heart and in his life, he actively promotes service to others. Could he have done more in his 23 months in office ? Perhaps he could have but I expect the same is true for most of us and we don't have a country to run or protect.
We elected a President of the United States who happens to be a God fearing christian, we did not elect a Minister of the United States. If people are looking for showboating symbolism they need to look somewhere else but if being blessed with an imperfect man who has his priorities straight; God, family, country then IMHO George W Bush is the right man for these troubled times.
BTW, I was fortunate enough to recieve one of those Christmas cards and I was pleased and grateful.
