I received the 2002 Whitehouse Christmas card (postmarked Crawford, Tx.) and wanted to share it with any and all.

In addition to the Poinsettas, the Lighted Lampstand is significant (representative of the Holy Spirit) as are the eagles. Examine the card closely, it is rife with Christian symbology.

NY Catholic,

Get a grip! The President sends out thousands of cards a year to people of all faiths, and I for one am pleased to see a Psalm included.

In a few days, a much smaller number will go out to those he knows better, and I will bet it has a very religious message. It did last year.

Thank you for pointing out the symbolism in the card. I am going to take another look at it.

Of course, the lack of a Christmas tree is the big deal to some people. Nevermind that before the mid-19th century, 99% of Americans didn't have one! Jeesh!

More importantly, if memory serves me, the Christmas Tree was a pagan symbol of the Winter Solstice that was hi-jacked by the early Church as a means of converting the pagans to Christianity!

I received a White House Christmas Card and think it is beautiful and in keeping with the one that George and Laura Bush sent out the year before he was inaugurated. That one showed the staircase and entrance hall of the Texas Governor's Mansion.

Everyone who goes on the White House tour can see this piano as they are leaving through the front door. The card is a nice reminder of that experience.

Oh, and by the way, before anyone jumps, the pagans didn't call it a "Christmas Tree"!

All other things said (and said and said and said...), that is one ugly mofo piano.

Did you even GET a card from the White House? I did, and mine is at the framers, because I am THRILLED that we have a president who quotes scripture in his card, and lives his faith.

And you claim not to be a bushbot; yeah, right. What's the symbolism/meaning of the Grand piano? I don't get it.

Wherever did you get the idea that I claim to not be a Bushbot? Go look at my profile page! I am PROUD to be a Bushbot!

I don't think the piano itself is symbolic. I think the use of light, the lamp and the poinsettias is. Ask the poster Ol' Sox, who has pointed out the symbolism.

What's the symbolism/meaning of the Grand piano?

Psalm 150:

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre,
praise him with tambourine and dancing,
praise him with the strings and flute, praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.

Music--making a joyful noise unto the Lord.

It seems to me the "PC" crowd would be the ones who would want the Presidential family to make them happy.

For you, I offer

My card is slightly different.

On the bottom it says, "Hey John, howyadoin? We whipped their ass pretty good in that midterm election, eh?" :-}

How can anyone say this card doesn't make reference to Christ? It says "Lord" in it, and lists two of the many names the Bible refers to Him as.

Isn't Christmas a Christian holiday? Last I checked it was.

Well, my 23 year old daughter has read this thread, and she has the following questions:

1. Doesn't the President send cards to Jewish people as well?

2. Is the President supposed to be an evangelist? Is that what they think?

She is spot on in her questions, and I showed her your "new, improved version" of the card. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
