The encyclopedia-length Talmud mostly consists of discussions by groups of rabbis. On rare occasions, one of them will say something off the wall and the others will put him in his place. For example, and this is about the only example like this, in Sanhedrin (59a) one rabbi says that Christians who study Jewish holy books should be put to death (in the hypothetical situation where the Jews regained secular authority), and then the other rabbis disagree, saying that such a Christian should instead be honored. I did remember something like this from my childhood Jewish education, and this web page brought it back:
