Drugs claims ... Winona with her lawyer yesterday From EVA SIMPSON MOVIE star Winona Ryder is a heroin user who could overdose and die, a shock police report claimed last night. A detective warned the judge at Winonas shoplifting hearing that if the actress didnt get help she could be found dead with a needle in her arm. The file was released as Winona, 31, appeared for sentence. She was let off jail, but was given probation and community service.
She was also ordered to undergo drug and psychological counselling. The 28-page probation report said police had been told Winona had been using heroin for a decade and was addicted to painkillers. Detectives said they were flooded with calls from the stars friends and associates, who claimed she had a major drugs problem. The report says: Detective Elwell certainly believes the defendant has a drug problem and felt that probation and some type of intervention would be appropriate. The cop was quoted as saying: We dont want to find her slumped over in a car with a needle in her arm. The best thing is to get help for her. One informant told cops Winona had had a heroin problem for ten years, the report added. The document also said Winona had a hypodermic needle on her when she was arrested. The actress said it was to treat a back injury. The police report revealed Winona had been using a shadowy celebrity doctor to supply her with prescription drugs.
At one stage the troubled actress was using 37 DIFFERENT medications, many obtained using a string of false names. She had eight different prescription drugs on her when she was arrested. Winona began taking drugs when she was a teenager after breaking up with a boyfriend, the report claims. She admitted she had been introduced to marijuana from an early age after living in a commune with her parents. Last night Winonas publicist said the report was unsubstantiated hearsay. Mara Bauxbaum said: These statements represent false, unfounded, anecdotal and malicious gossip that could have been called in by anyone with access to a phone. Winona was also fined £1,700 and told to pay £4,000 compensation.

of Winona By STEWART WHITTINGHAM WINONA Ryder was one of four children raised by hippy parents and spent much of her early life on a commune exposed to drugs. He is best remembered as an advocate of LSD, who urged a generation to turn on, tune in, and drop out.
Winona has starred in more than 20 films since her 1986 debut in school drama Lucas and has dated a string of celebrities. Her first big role was in the 1988 comedy Beetlejuice.

Yikes. Timothy Leary was one of my idols when I was an acid head back in the late 60s, early 70s.
I also ended up doing herion and a lot of other things I won't even take the time to list.
I only thank God that I lived through all that insanity. Many of my friends didn't.
Let's hope Winona gets help.
(She also dated Jason Patrick, mmmmmmmmm)
But seriously, kudos to you for GYST. I had a close friend or two who never did.
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. In a three-year span Winona Ryder filled 37 prescriptions from 20 doctors under a half-dozen aliases, according to a probation report that concluded the actress is apparently addicted to pain killers.
The report was released Friday after Ryder received a probationary sentence for stealing and vandalizing merchandise at a Saks Fifth Avenue store in December 2001. It paints a picture of the actress "doctor shopping" to obtain prescription medicines.
Ryder was not convicted of any drug charges and defense attorney Mark Geragos emphasized she had prescriptions for eight medications found on her when she was arrested. Geragos, who tried to keep the report sealed, told the judge Ryder has a "pain-management" problem.
The probation report suggests a different scenario. "While the defendant may have had reason in the past that necessitated her use of opiate pain killers, it would appear to the undersigned, as well as others, that the defendant is addicted to pain medication ...," said the report by chief probation officer Richard Shumsky and two deputies. full story, WashPost
