WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A U.S. Navy destroyer collided with an Iranian-flagged oil rig service vessel in the northern Persian Gulf on Friday, according to Pentagon officials.
No injuries have been reported aboard the USS Paul Hamilton, the guided missile destroyer involved in the incident.
The ships collided about 8:24 p.m. local time (12:24 p.m. ET) during a routine boarding and inspection of the Iranian vessel for smuggled oil or terrorists.
