The last one we had was the one legged General Fred (Freddie) Franks Jr. Remember the Iraq pictures of the road of death! Given a few hours and he would have been in Baghdad. His Armored Calvary group ridded us of a large number of Iraq armor they never recovered.
See Tom Clancy's non fiction "INTO THE STORM (A Study in Command)".

The last one we had was the one legged General Fred (Freddie) Franks Jr...Stormin' Norman claims that he almost relieved Franks because, in Gen. Schwarzkopf's opinion, Franks was not speedy enough in his flanking movement. I don't know who to believe in this matter: perhaps Gen. Schwarzkopf was just frustrated that the timing of his operation was disrupted by the unanticipated speed of the Marines' advance into Kuwait.
