Lord of the Rings Fans Disillusioned: Aragorn is Anti-American Peacenik Retard!

It would appear, based on this account of Viggo Mortensen's appearance on Charlie Rose last night, that this nascent superstar (based on his wonderful acting in the Lord of the Rings films) is actually just another America-hating imbecile- a man who plays a hero, yet fails to see the heroism of U.S. fighting men, or the justice of their cause. BTW, I didn't see the show, as I don't get Charlie Rose, but I saw a photo of Viggo in the "No More Blood For Oil" T-shirt. What a moron. Very disappointing.

More liberal emetic:
"[Middle Earth is]..a green alternative to each day's madness here in a poisoned world. We are raised to honor all the wrong explorers and discoverers--thieves planting flags, murders carrying crosses. Let us at last praise the colonizers of dreams."
---Peter S. Beagle, introduction to the 1973 Del Rey edition of LOTR.

blah, i had the misfortune of catching part of that show last night while surfing around. I thought he looked familiar and then once they started talking about The Two Towers it dawned on me who it was. During the part i watched he kept going on and on about how America has been bombing innocent people over the past year and how wrong and misguided we are. Anyway i couldn't take too much of it so i turned off the TV and went to bed. Oh well, i guess i'll probably still watch The Two Towers but doubt i'll be catching any other of this particular puppet's projects (it's just too bad the words of such a noble character has to be mouthed by such a weak-minded fool).

I could be wrong, but this may be the height of his career.

really hear you and Rastus. I really wish I didn't know about this. I LOVE this guy's Aragorn. It's just sad.
Two things:
1). Advance screenings have been happening, so a very few folks have seen the movie.
2). If you get the WB network, tonight there's a 1 hour Two Towers documentary.

Ok, I may get flamed- and perhaps rightfully so, but Why is there ALWAYS a thread about the Lord of the Rings movie on FreeRepublic?
I have not seen this movie yet but my preconception is that it is kind of a geeky movie for folks who used to play Dungeons and Dragons.

Have a problem with using actual article titles? - Two threads about this interview have already been posted today.

Dittoes, and I'll wear my asbestos underwear to ward off the flames. Last year I just about bit through my toungue avoiding laughter during "Lord of the Rings". I was thinking of "Bored of the Rings" during the whole time. So much for Goodgulf, the wizard.

Freep a guy who writes for a Lord of the Rings website about politics? - What difference does it make what Xoanon thinks?
To: Burr5
I saw the show. He is just a pure vomit.
To: Moleman
No flames from me... even though you tried to insult all of us who like the Lord of the Rings... and it must be obvious that many here do like them, or there wouldn't be so many threads.
To: HairOfTheDog
It's my post and I can title it whatever the hell I want.
I notice that the two "other threads" didn't keep you away. A**hole.

I really wish I didn't know about this. I LOVE this guy's Aragorn. It's just sad. He's an eccentric kind of dude, very artistic, and a bit strange... he slept outside and wore his sword everywhere during the filming of the story. I wouldn't worry about him. No one in charge of our politics is asking him what we should do...
To: Burr5
Don't call me an A Hole! I'm a nice person! - Sorry that came off so harsh - It is a rule that you should not editorialize in the titles... Relax!
To: Moleman
Don't go on preconceptions. I did not read LOTR until immediately before the release of the movie, last year. I am generally turned off by fantasy books/movies. If you have an imagination, do yourself a favor and see the movies.

At the risk of hijacking the thread, could someone provide a short summary of where Tolkien stood politically? Judging from the Heinlein thread of yesterday, I know there are people here who can do it.
My knowledge of Tolkien is very limited. I read the Hobbit years ago, saw Fellowship last year and didn't like it, watched it two times on DVD and warmed up to it, and watched the recent Extended Edition and liked it a lot. Other than that, my knowledge of Tolkien is limited to a FR thread last year and some other posts I've read here and there.
If I remember the thread from last year, it was said that Tolkien was a devout Christian (Catholic?) and a good friend of CS Lewis. I believe some said Lord of the Rings was Tolkien's answer to Narnia (which I haven't read)--his attempt to write a fantasy story without any Christian undercurrents at all. Other posts seemed to say that Christian undercurrents were present, strong and intentional.
Other than that, I know that Peter Jackson said that Tolkien considered the internal combustion engine the most evil device created by man (shades of Algore), and others have said he was a luddite, and that the ring represented modern technology, and that the hordes of Saruman represented industrial "blight." At least as depicted in the movie, where Saruman has the trees felled and the land despoiled, I can see that viewpoint is present.
So, can anyone sort all this out? Get to the truth of the matter? Thanks.

I'll be very happy to keep myself on your "good side".
I tried to find this story here and couldn't. As you can tell, I hate nit-picking.
I'm actually pretty much with you on this - The "Insult to Tolkein and America" is interesting. LOTR is my favorite film of all time and I'm just pissed at Viggo, who was so inspiring. I was happy to read in a post at the above mentioned thread, that Elijah Wood was made visibly uncomfortable by this imbecilic display.
See you December 18th my friend.
