With that said...
It's your problem if you are offended by my obvious amusement at the "anal cyst" being the cause of his deferment; I wouldn't have written, "hold your hat" if it was a bad back or heart condition, etc.
If it was a legitimate medical condition that kept him out of Vietnam, then that's that. I work in the same suite with Nursing Faculty and I asked them about this type of cyst. Two said there are some that were indeed inoperable and it could be very serious.

Please don't misunderstand. I claim no medical knowledge as to the seriousness of anal cysts, or whether they are enough to keep you from serving. I've been following the debate here with interest: some people say yea, others nay.
I was simply expressing my inner Beavis and Butthead, and I'll do it again now. "Anal Cyst -- heh heh heh!" ;)

There are lots of conditions that the military will treat you for if you are already in, but will not accept you as a recruit if you have it prior to enlistment. It's simply not in their interest to enlist someone that is likely to spend time taking up medical resources, as well as potentially squandering the effort that went into training them. Once you are already in it is a different story.
