You speak for yourself alone. I don't put much credance in the opinion of warmongers that didn't spend one minute in defense of their country. Military service is important to some of us.

I couldn't agree with you more, JS, a truly execrable comment from sinkspur. Limbaugh skipped Vietnam because of an operable cyst and now he's a leading hawk on Iraq now that someone else (or someone else's son) is going to do the fighting. Very similar to my trying to convince someone down the street to beat up the town bully and then bragging about what a "spoiled rich kid" he is when he does what I've been afraid to do. I don't agree with John Kerry, but what he did in Vietnam was not the mark of a "spoiled rich kid".

I don't see anybody "warmongering."

OK, so I'm making up the chart here, let me see if I've got it straight:

Military status Pro-war Anti-war
Volunteered for service, served in combat Opinion valid Opinion valid
Volunteered for service, served in non-combat in 'Nam Opinion invalid Opinion valid
Volunteered for service, served stateside Opinion invalid Opinion valid
Volunteered for National Guard, served stateside Opinion invalid Opinion valid
Drafted, served in 'Nam Opinion invalid Opinion valid
Drafted, served stateside Opinion invalid Opinion valid
Drafted, medical deferment Opinion invalid Opinion valid
Drafted, college deferment Opinion invalid Opinion valid
Drafted, fled to Canada Opinion invalid Opinion valid
Undrafted during Vietnam era Opinion invalid Opinion valid
Undrafted, not of age during Vietnam era Opinion invalid Opinion valid

What about my father who volunteered in '65, knowing he wasn't going to college, hoping to get a quicker tour of duty, but was rejected because of a foot long metal plate holding his shin together. I guess he's a chickenhawk, too. And my brother served 4 years in the USAF, all of them at Dover. That's probably not good enough, either.

Fill me in, because I'm not up to date.

And you speak for your self-alone. This former Marine doesn’t give a rat's a** weather he served or not. What I DO care about is weather someone supports the PROPER use of the military in the defense of this nation and its interests. Rush does.

You just summed up my whole worldview on this Iraq debate. Whenever I hear someone going on about this like they're gearing up for the big game, I get ill. The peaceniks make me just as ill.

What brought it all home for me was the salesman who sold me my truck the other day. He retired from the marines after 20 years and now they're calling him back. I'm not very emotional, but talking to this guy got to me. That sinking feeling you get when you're forced into to a war zone was written all over his face. He talked about his little girl.

I truly believe that if everyone on earth participated in a war first hand (note: first hand is not sitting your fat ass on your recliner and watching CNN) there would be no more wars.
