I was listening to Rush Limbaugh a while ago and some liberal fool came on and said that Sen. John Kerry had "gravitas" (gag me, I'm so tired of that overused word) because he signed up for service with ___ Pershing and the guy who founded FEDEX. How does that give Sen. Kerry gravitas? It seems to me this vignette shows he (Sen. Kerry) is just a spoiled rich boy.
Then the liberal came up and mentioned Rush's being a draft dodger.

"1 out of 16 babyboomer males saw combat in Vietnam. For every babyboomer killed in combat in VN, 10 committed a felony to avoid the draft. Was that generation against war or against personal participation? 80 percent of them supported the Gulf War."That eqautes to 2 million males. That is the number of US Personnel who can legally claimed to have served in Vietnam. Who on this forum believes that they ALL saw combat?

Too right. My point is that whether or not Rush had what he felt like a valid medical reason not to serve or not, "anal cysts" is not generally such a debilitating disease that it keeps you from having a normal life. Many noble and courageous veterans gave their lives in this war, and whether we agree with its premise or not, they were called and served their country. I'm not judging Rush, but if that is the grace that we must give him then surely he's not in a position to be labeling others at this point in time.

Depends on how one defines combat...

Mine was also recurring, it almost kept me out of the Air Force. It came back while I was in and was taken care of there. After I was out, it came back again, and the last surgery I had on it was about 20 years ago - and I have not had any problems since. If the cyst would have been active when I went for my physical, they would not have enlisted me, and that was during a non-combat period. I can see why they would give you a deferrment because of it if you were to go be a ground pounder.

Depends on how one defines combat...How about:
Bravely biting down and through the upper lip of a Little Rock Nursing Home administrator during a hand-to-hand close-quarter-battle-encounter, until finally achieving the involuntary submission of one's adversary? Is that combat?

Have no idea what you are talking about.

Limbaugh has no business representing any conservative opinion when the worst wound he ever got was a paper cut If the credentials for being a bona fide conservative include service in Vietnam, there are millions of "conservatives" who don't measure up. Back in the early 1970s, I used to be rabidly pro-abortion. Now I'm not; I changed my opinion about that issue around 1974, and became active in the pro-life movement. Does this mean I'm not truly pro-life because I once used to advotate for abortion?
It's a free country. You have the ability to exercise your right not to listen to Limbaugh.
