Even in World Net Daily, right-wing "fringe groups" are singled out for their semitism. This is perfectly true; but the most dangerous source of antisemitism today is on the left. The European governments that are banning kosher food are leftist. The animal rights groups that support the bans are leftist. The synagogue bombers are either Muslims or their Marxist allies. The antisemitic groups in American universities who insult Jews and call for divestment from Israel are leftists. The politicians and parties who blame the Intifada on Israel are leftists. Noam Chomsky and Edward Said are leftists. The French ambassador who called Israel a "shitty little country" is a Socialist.

As long as the ADL and other Jewish groups blame antisemitism only on Nazis and right-wing racists, they are closing their eyes to the worst dangers.

European anti-Semitism is not new, by any means. Long before the Third Reich, various pogroms were carried out in Russia (under the Czars), in France, in Poland, in Austria-Hungary, and even in the compartively enlightened British Isles. Jews were a separatist group, with a largely closed culture, speaking a tongue that was vaguely Germanic, but so distinctly accented as to be incomprehensible to their non-Jewish neighbors. Then, as now, anyone who is too radically different was despised and harassed, and denied access to most of the amenities of the community. Pacifist by nature and upbringing, few Jews got involved in the broader society of their day, and those that did, were almost invariably committed to atheism and anarchy, smashing all the old ways and calling for bloody reform. The Jews who did not indulge in reckless rhetoric, worked their way up the ladder in civil service, in banking, and in business to what appeared to be modest successes, but in fact they often had leverage on much more power than was obvious. By itself, this was not necessarily bad. They were in a position to do a great deal for their community of co-religionists, and lifted many more out of the ghettos to which they had been confined for centuries. But worse than the powerless Jew was the uppity Jew, and that was and is in large part what fueled the hostility against the Jews during the dark night of the Third Reich, and what is going on in Europe today.

A unified, statist-socialist, Judenfrei Europe, dominated by a unified Germany, with the USSR relegated to the dust heap of history and the USA being progressively expelled out of and alientated from Europe. . . Adolph must be laughing in his grave.

"Sometimes anti-Semites will use this as a vehicle to try to isolate the Jewish community by reaching out to those who are so preoccupied with animal rights,"

All those european animal rights laws we've been making fun of aren't funny anymore. They've gone from being ridiculous to being sinister. Thanks for posting this article, I never put it all together before reading this.

GOOD COMMENTS on this kosher ban: http://www.littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=4891#comments

Knighthawk... Do you know anything about Euros trying to ban Halal meat? I do believe animals are killed the same way in Kosher and halal. Would the Dutch and Belgian police even dare go into a Muslim neighborhood to enforce a ban on halal meat?
