I got caught up in listening to some music, and am just now cueing up that movie.

Good night to you, Miss Daisy.

Of course I remember - vividly!
But our generation had emerged from the Depression, and there were a LOT of manufacturing plants the first 40 years of the century to retool, and we were not accustomed to having a lot of 'things.'

Imagine now the millions of investment house employees and bankers and lawyers and bookkeepers and retail clerks and the 'chip' techie crowd, trying to produce food for the table - and all those living in highrises/apartments/condos.

Trying to figure out how to build a 'factory' (most men spread around the world fighting), and so many women who would cringe at a hangnail or mussed hairdo and no 'instant' food.

We were used to having less, and there were more acres of land to produce food and have a chicken or two and survive.

"WHAT, MOM?? I can't have the new Barbie or electronic game?!"
End of the world, man - -

I'm sure you can imagine how the spoiled children will react who don't know what it is to pitch in and do things for themselves as we did.

Thank you Dave. And give that big boy a huge birthday hug from me. The best people are born on Dec 3. Right?

You have a point. I'm sure it would be tough on a lot of people. But I like to hope that there is enough of the American spirit left to resurface if things got dangerous. It's for sure that we have spoiled a couple of generations.

You bet.

Dad's doing well now, thanks. He saw his hand doctor Monday and he ordered daily rehab for wound attention (cleaning and dressing changes) and for physical therapy to get strength and mobility back. His pain in the shoulder blade has finally eased and he hasn't taken pain medication in 3-4 days now. So he's making progress, slowly but surely.....

Dad has been wanting/needing to go to Barksdale AFB in Shreveport for a while. He wants to go to the Commissary for groceries and has called in refills on a couple of prescriptions as well. It's about a 2 hour drive and we're leaving in a couple of hours or so. He told me about a truck stop somewhere near Marshall, Texas. So guess where we're having breakfast, huh? LOL ! He must like the food there, and I'm sure it's good, too !!!

We'll be back late this afternoon or early evening I think.....

"Powerful times, they were...I'm sure glad we made it to the future."

As a 5-to-7-year-old at the time, I thank my lucky stars that I was blessed with parents who totally shielded me from the entire sad episode in American history. Heck, they were sooo over-protective of me that when I later purchased Elton John's single "Lucy in the Sky of Diamonds" the 'rents took it away and destroyed it because they said it would lead me to doing acid (LSD, in particular)...LOL!!

But I know more and more folks who were Lib'rals back then who have come to eventually realize that all the Left's promises were false, and are rejoining the Right, as our Founding Fathers would have wanted it!!

Congrats on yer day in the FReepers' Finest spotlight, my FRiend...MUD

what a wonderful place to go lurkin. Congratulations to you jwfiv. That was a great bio. I am relly glad to get to know you.
This place can be real addicting can't it? Couldn't think of a nicer place to be tho. I have several vets in my family. Some day, when I figure out how it is done, I will send in their pictures. Guess I had bettter get my scanner hooked up again.
Have a glorious day everybody and don't forget to stop and smell the roses.

Hiya, isasis, glad yer lurkin'.

Pleased to meet you, too.

Yes, definitely, FR is addicting...a big, wide window on the world, and good neighbors all around...Freepers rule.

It would be great to see pics of the Vets in your family, so don't forget that scanner.

Taking your hint, smelling the roses...it's been a fine day.
