Exactly which criteria should have been used to keep this guy out? He's MARRIED, ergo BSA-approved.

Ain't got nothing to do with keeping "gays" out.

Reports like these, which are relatively rare concerning Scout leaders, validate the position of the Boy Scouts to remove all homosexual adult leaders from their ranks. It also validates the decision of the US Supreme Court in Dale v. Boy Scouts to uphold the First Amendment (freedom of association) rights of the Scouts to do exactly that.

And it also proves that all who attack the Scouts for exercising their constitutional rights are willing to play sexual roulette with other people's children. Those who object to the Scouts' removing homosexual leaders are welcome to create their own organization which provides "scouting" opportunities but does welcome homosexual leaders. Let's see how many parents wich to entrust their children into the "care" of an organization like that.

"A Scout is trustworthly, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, thifty, obedient, cheerful, brave, clean and reverent." That's not a bad set of standards for a boy to aspire to. It's not a bad set for a man. Heck, it's not a bad set for a politician or two.

I note for the record that among leadership positions -- ranging from officers in the military, to astronauts, to Congressman (yes, Congressmen), Eagle Scouts are far more prevalent than their numbers in the general population. Maybe, just maybe, the Scout program IS a good way to raise children.

Here's another news source reporting:

(Note: the scout leader's wife *was home*. Note, too: one of the boys *walked home* in the middle of the night!! I feel odd saying so, but I guess I am thankful to God for the lack of supervision.)(....sigh....)

Scout leader faces sex charges

TITUSVILLE -- A Boy Scout leader was being held at the Brevard County Jail on Sunday after several boys complained that he had exposed himself at a sleepover, showed them computer pornography and asked for sexual favors, police said.

Robert Leroy King, 50, was arrested Saturday on charges of lewd and lascivious molestation and exposure of sexual organs, jail officials said. At least three boys, ages 10 to 12, were sleeping over at his Titusville home Friday night because they planned to work together on a Christmas float Saturday, Titusville Sgt. John Lau, said.

One of the boys walked home during the night and told his parents, who contacted police. Two other boys at the sleepover complained shortly thereafter, and two more boys have come forward since, Lau said.

Investigators don't know yet whether the last two boys were at the sleepover or if their allegations stem from separate incidents.

A judge set bail for King, whose wife was home during the sleepover, at $75,000.

Mr. Slippy Fist strikes again!

Remember the gay motto..."They're all pink on the inside"! (Works for the RCC as well, it seems...)

Tell me again how we need to be Diverse and Tolerant of these destructive deviants?

You know the Boy Scouts could allow homosexual scout leaders so long as they openly admit their choice (rather than delude parents into thinking they uphold BSA moral values) then, let the parents choose which scout leader they want their child to have. Free choice of association. I know the public schools won't let you choose your teacher (for obvious reasons) but a private organization like the BSA might consider this option. If a parent chooses a homosexual leader and the boy is molested, then they are at least culpable for exposing their child to an adult with this propensity for sin.

Aside from my silly rant (I don't have any sons) I'll be praying for the wife and kids of the man who did the molesting. What an awful thing to occur. I'm sure she's devistated and the kid's are confused. Can you imagine the call she got from the police station? What a dad! He single handedly let his sexual fantasies destroy his family.

Note to parents:

BSA does not stand for "Baby Sitters of America". If you are not showing up for Scouting activities once in a while, and if you are not making sure that there are parents present at all Scouting functions, then you are not fulfilling your obligation as a parent.

Oh, but a homosexual scout leader would be above that sort of thing. Just because they may be pedophiles and happen to be around young boys doesn't mean that they would molest them. He was probably acting out in frustration over having to repress his unnatural urges and he would never have had to act out in this way had he been "able" to openly express his homosexuality, so it really isn't his fault. It is the fault of the Boy Scouts for having such an antiquated rule and the Supreme Court's fault for upholding it.< /sarcasm >

Golden Empire Counsel has been doing finger printing and background checks on their own for several years now. Also, all adults are required to do Youth Protection training. No adult is ever supposed to be alone with any Scout. It protects the boys and protects the adults from false accusations as well. I believe this counsel has some questions to answer as well, they obviously were not following the rules.
