Actually, he's trying to impress somebody (I'm not sure who) by using the word zeitgeist.

But he uses it wrong. It does not mean "what's being talked about in the current news cycle." It means something quite a bit bigger--"the spirit of the age."

It is really quite simple to explain his usage. In his mind, he is overcome with a sense of weltschmerz and he had to come up with a comparatively related term to use to express its depth.

In the circles of The Annointed, the world is so complex, you see.
