The people of southern Sudan live with terrorism and slavery every day, says a Sudanese Episcopal bishop visiting the Richmond area.

"Christians in the Sudan are being killed and churches are being burned," said Nathaniel Garang Anyieth, bishop of the Diocese of Bor of the Episcopal Church of Sudan.

Cicero is right. It isn't the oil that is evil, it is the companies dealing with the Sudanese government. If somebody unzips and pees into the ocean, ya don't boycott swimming, ya just kick the snot out of the culprit.

Where's black America on this one? Where's the voices of rage? Where's the songs of freedom? Instead, we hear the voice and work of Franklin Graham. Slavery, genocide..I guess apartheid wins hands down as a political game. The other two aren't as sexy.

If we lived in a Free country, we could be holding telethons to pay for weapons and airdrops to the people in the south of Sudan.

Sadly, we don't.

Another U.N. failure. A few arms won't help much.

They need billions to create another Israeli type of fortress.

And we know how that works.

These people of that region are like a group of stray cats that have over extended their resources. They depend on outside assistance and when they get it, they grow some more.

It is a impossible situation. A totally impossible situation.

"And it's not just the Sudanese gov't, but also Moslem thugs that rob, rape and destroy at will."

There's a difference???

Twice in September, the government of Sudan bombed the community where Samaritan’s Purse operates a hospital. Those attacks were followed by a ban on relief flights that cut the support and escape lifelines for more than a dozen of our international relief workers. Meanwhile, Sudan’s civil war escalated and peace talks broke off.

Dr. Warren Cooper of Chicago is among dozens of international doctors who have served at the Samaritan's Purse hospital in southern Sudan. His tiny patient is among more than 100,000 who have been treated at the hospital in the last three years.

"When several thousand white Kosovars were killed and tens of thousands displaced, the world called it genocide. But sadly, when 1.9 million Africans are killed and millions more displaced, tortured, and even sold into slavery, our world leaders remain strangely silent." — Franklin Graham

Since 1983, a civil war has been raging in Sudan between a militant Islamic government and black-largely Christian-tribespeople in the south. It is estimated that nearly 2 million Sudanese have lost their lives and 5 million more have been displaced.

If you are interested, please contact Cindy Bonsall at (828) 262-1980 or e-mail cbonsall@samaritan.org.

Samaritan's Purse is also looking for a Christian family practice physician to serve in Sudan for 6-12 months. Please contact Becky Williams at (828) 262-1980 or bwilliams@samaritan.org for more information.

"I would like to know how we can pull our money..."

Maybe all those who are serious should get together (electronically or in person) and discuss some ideas.

This is not new news. This started happening during the Clintoonian years.

Je$$e HiJack$on and the unreverend Al $harpton have ignored the massive murders, rapes and Christians being sold into slavery as these crimes are not being committed old white Southerns who died in the last two centuries.

BTW: In all fairness to Bush, he has no choice. Until (and if ever) the U.S. becomes energy independent, it will continue to operate at the mercy of (hostile) foreign oil sources.

Bump for your post, great links, cartoons, etc.

In FRegards to "fairness for Bush", yes we are between rock and a hard spot for oil right now, especially with the economy in the it's current shape, BUT THE ADMINISTRATION HAS BEEN SILENT ON ANWR SINCE 9-11.

Common sense would tell us that we should drill here instead of buying from terrorists, even if the wackos were right and it would kill every harp seal in the artic.

All we get is more "religion of peace" propoganda from Powell. The Sowdees may love being murdering mohammadans, but they love $$$$ more. If domestic drilling were to start, so would public decapitations of terrorists in Mecca. The price of oil would go down in conjunction with the drill depth in ANWR. By the time the wells were on line, our ragheaded friends would have the price so low, we could cap the wells and just keep them there for insurance.

Well, how much marching in front of corperate headquarters and suing of US businesses could these people do if the Mohammadans were to leave them alone? They are of no use to the ASs and JJs in the US.

The ones sold into slavery are just going to be "tent slaves" anyhow. < sarcasm >

Tbese elite black racists and our first black president did not want to hear about the slaughter and enslavement of these poor people. There was no political capital nor money to be extorted. So they just forgot about this terrible tragedy.
