A very good Sullivan piece. I had NO idea how many on the left not only failed to condemn what took place, but also try to deflect blame from the radical Muslims responsible. I must admit, I thought it was a stupid place to hold the contest, but the Miss World folks hardly forced themselves on Nigeria. They were paying guests in that country. A beauty contest is a harmless thing, certainly nothing to be compared to the repression of women in Muslim countries.

I can't believe how people on the left lend support to these Islamofascists. It really makes my brain melt.

For the record - the Miss World contest said that their practice is to hold the show in the home country of the previous year's winner. This means that Miss Nigeria was Miss World 2002.

Surely the Islamofascists in Nigeria had a year's warning that the women were coming. The rampagers, who got their inspiration to kill directly from inside their mosques, are directly responsible for the slaughter. Leftist newsmedia are going beyond the position of useful idiot toward the position of accomplice by their refusal to display the facts.

I seem to remember reading or hearing, just before the riots got out of hand, how thrilled the Nigerian government was to have this contest, because it would be such a boon to the economy, prove they were really part of the modern world, yada yada.
