We are not talking about the hierarchy of the Church. We are talking about effective governance in a secular society. If we insist upon ideological purity in the selection of candidates for ALL government offices, we will alienate our uneasy political allies, which will result in the enemies of life achieving total dominance in the sphere of public social policy. It's called cutting off our noses to spite our faces.

There is absolutely no principle being abandonded in selecting men like Kissinger to positions having nothing to do with social policy.

Our society did not become so perverse overnight, and we will not be healed in a day. When we finally have a golden opportunity to effect the character of the Judicial branch for a generation, doesn't it seems silly and shortsighted to get your panties in a bunch over W's appointment of Dr. K to this pointless, pandering placading party?!

<> It used to be a given that leaders had to be men of character. In this instance, we have a man who is infamously absent character. I don't think any long term goal is advanced by abandoning bedrock principles. The RIGHT to life is a bedrock principle. If conservatives are supposed to accept probaortionists as apt for important positions of power and prestige, in what way have we advanced towards the goal of reorienting this society?

The important point, imo, is being ignored. It isn't the position and its duties, it is the man. Wasn't that the basis of the Rats when it came to defending Clinton during Monicagate? JUst because he had sex with Monica doesn't mean he couldn't do the job. It seems we conservatives are now supposed to follow the Libs on this also.<>
