I well remember my first exposure to the U.P.

Drove into Marquette on July 4, 1961. In a sleet storm...

During all the years I lived in "The Thumb", I never made it up to the U.P.
Considering the travel distance, I figured it was just as easy for me to drive home to Pennsylvania and do my fishing and camping vacations there.
But I got the impression from my neighbors that the U.P only experiences summer during the last week of July and the first week of August. Maybe they picked up a day or two on either side with the global warming we're having.
