I agree that the statements you mentioned are absurd; however, George Bush is pragmatic and highly intelligent. He gets an A+. In his words, he "has a job to do". He's not showing his hand.

He's not showing his hand

He's been in office for 2 years now! When do you think he plans on showing his hand? As long as we're running on this poker playing analogy, then keep in mind the saying "It's time to put up or shut up", which is not directed at you, by the way.
I'm getting sick and tired of hearing everyone say that Bush is just keeping his hold card secret, and that he's gonna make his big move any minute now.
The clock is ticking, and many, many minutes and opportunities have passed by since the first time I heard someone make this defensive claim.
I have voted for Bush in every political race he has been in to date. What have I receieved for my commitment to the cause? Nothing. But I have lost quite a bit. I've lost the illusion that I have certain inalienable rights that are protected by the Constitution. I've lost the illusion that my government's main concern is the protection of it's citizens. I've also lost the illusion that Bush will do what is in the best interest of this country instead of bowing down in front of Vincente Fox and other national leaders.
Color me disillusioned, but I don't believe Bush is holding an ace up his sleeve, waiting on the right time to say "Read 'em and weep".
