"Since "loser pays" is not part of the US legal system, you had to have a really lousy case--or a really inept advocate.
Which one do you think it is?"
You must not be familiar with the American legal system. There is a third choice...an extremely biased judge. How else could you explain forced busing, Roe v Wade, or the recent New Jersey decision to allow Lautenberg on the ballot?

There are some things a judge does not do at the trial level--and frivolous fining is one of them.

Diago, you failed to cite the very real possibility that the case came before a liberal/leftist judge.
Saundra, are you aware of the much higher than average cancer of breast and cervix for women in Marin county ... higher than normal abortion rate there also.

Ask Saundra the basis of the suit, what her standing was to become a plaintiff, and whether she or the others ever had an abortion or were ever interested in obtaining one.

Our case began as a consumer rights' case but somehow or other Planned Parenthood was successful in turning it all around and making it about abortion. PP's lawyers are the best money can buy. Don't get me wrong. Our lawyers are good, too. It ain't over until the fat lady sings. For victory & freedom!!!

Don't forget Dred Scott.
