This has been feared for several years, and expected since last September. We have dozens of very busy commercial airports, each with approach patterns which cover huge areas from which to fire.

You don't necessarily need the latest and greatest Stinger missiles -- there are plenty of old Russian SA-7s floating around. And it wouldn't matter if every attack succeeded in downing its target, as panic would result from any missile attack, not to mention a coordinated attack at multiple airports. The only real trick for the bad guys is smuggling the missiles in, and keeping Aschcroft from detaining their key people -- so pray for the FBI to succeed in these roles. The attack itself is just too easy to do, and impossible to prevent. This truly is the airlines' worst nightmare...

I have worked not too far from the San Francisco aiport for the last 3 years, including one location that was less that a mile from the airport. It would be incredibly easy for a potential terrorist to find a good location (there are plenty), study the flight patterns for a period of time, open fire one day, get in the elevator, calmly walk out of the building, and drive away.

It wouldn't take a rocket scientist. I am surprised as well there hasn't been a rash of such activity...

They can pretty much just walk in over our Southern border.
