Microbes are living things..., which spontaneously mutate. It is bad enough we have to work with the ones we've got now. But you guys want to make new ones? And those new ones will mutate and find themselves into what niche?

Unintended consequences coming.

Microbes that exist now have predictable mutation rates and fairly set strategies for mutation developed over billions of years. Splicing genes creates an environment of unopposed revolution instead of check and balance evolutionary pressures. A bacteria that kills all of its host dies with the host in many cases. The mutations with 100% kill often dies before it can be spread into the biosphere. The ones that are most successful are the ones that infect us and do the least amount of damage i.e. "normal flora".

These people could create a monster of unstable mutation capabilities, which could kill everyone on the planet. This is a really bad idea.
