I'm in construction, lead piping is not very popular. Cast iron, copper and now PVC are pretty much the norm that you will find in 98% of all buildings and residences.

Lead paint in old houses is also a problem, especially if it's chipped, say on a window sill and a toddler ingests it. I read an article a couple of weeks ago about how some poor kid was poisoned by lead paint chips and how it affected him in school. He was about 10 years old and tried to lie down in the middle of a street to kill himself because he knew that something was wrong with him. Apparently, there are treatments to extract lead from body tissues but not the brain.

It's the newest game sweeping the nation - The Wheel of Spurious and Absurd Causes...object of the game is to find the most facile and thought-free cause for any social problem you happen to encounter. Bonus points if the cause has something to do with your bizzare pet issue.

Fourth, I state that the act of fluoridating water increases lead exposure especially to children because of two facts – a. The fluoride added to drinking water often has up to 400 mcg of lead per liter and b. the corrosive action of fluoride extracts lead from pipes and solder joints increasing lead exposure of the young. (Babies up to 3 months absorb 16 times as much lead per unit body weight than adults. Black babies and children because of genetic makeup absorb significantly more lead than white babies.)
