. Had it remained an EO then Bush could have voided it on his last day in office and his successor would have to justify and be accountable for their own EO if they wished to retain it. Good point. As it is we need to be vigilant and look for a chance to repeal the PA. Let's hope the PA does not outlive the WOT and both are gone soon.

We can remain vigilant but I can't remember the last law congress repealed.

While I tend to have a major distrust of those in Government...I WILL agree that an EO would have been better than the Patriot Act...and,Lord Knows, I do NOT like EO's that in essence pass legislation.
Better still would be for all restrictions on the 2nd Amendment to be nullified. I will totally agree with Heinlein that "..an armed society is a polite society".....and a much safer one.

That's great...those jobs SHOULD be privatized.
But....they are STILL FEDERAL JOBS!!!!!
That part will not be changing........

Which is easier to fire: salaried federal employees or private contractors?
To: Southack
Doesn't matter......
What DOES matter is that the actual size of Government is NOT shrinking....it is remaining constant.
It's just that the government will be making the checks out to a different party.......
I applaud GWB for trying to privitize those jobs...(see..I CAN say someting nice about him)....but I would rather see most of those jobs go away.

Your couple of posts here are interesting. You seem to be concerned with government intrusion into our lives, how then can you be a liberal democrat? Certainly not all but most of the nanny state type laws are pushed by liberals. They are not for freedom of association even in private clubs or on private property. Seat belt laws, smoking ban laws, cell phone use while driving laws, registering guns, speech codes, hate crimes (thought crimes), etc., etc., and etc. while some Repubs support these things it's usually for politcial expediency and they are not the sponsors. What part of being a liberal democrat are you for? wealth redistribution & "social justice"? Hey I'm not trying to persuade you to be a Repub, I am a libertarian myself, I'm just curious that's all.
You talk about the GOP being "bought-and-paid-for corporate hacks" and "Yeah, I'm the one being manipulated and fooled. Yeah right. A working man voting GOP a chicken voting for the fox." Do you think that the Democrat pols are not bought and paid for? Do you think big business pays only Repubs for special favors? And one parting shot "PRINCIPLED thinkers of the right... McCain". Do you really, honetsly, truely, believe McCain is a principled deep thinker? Not trying to be nasty, don't get me wrong but I just had to ask about that one.

Oh wait, all she did was try to come up with a health plan nationalize a fifth of the US economy. As a Canadian I already live under a health care system run by force instead of contract, Hillary!Care style. I and tens of thousands of other politically unconnected losers in this city of 350,000 can't get a family doctor at any price. 2002 News Flash: socialism/fascism don't work, whatever nice words you use for them.
And that's not even addressing the immorality of forcing someone else to pay for your health care...
And it's also (incorrectly) stipulating that the real purpose of socialized medicine is anything other than driving up the price and collecting monopoly profits on the medical care that is permitted to exist.
The idiot WWII/baby boomer generation screwed us future generations with their greed and economic ignorance, and now our medical system is simultaneously crazy expensive and irretrievably broken. You have our example right in front of you and you have no excuse for ignoring its lessons.
I'll leave it to others to untangle the rest of your post...

Thanks for the reply. I am always interested in hearing what other people think. I agree with you that the system is fixed so large money makes larger money with the corporate welfare and the tax code, etc. I have a solution though - equality under the law. Laws should apply to everyone equaly. And as far as an egalitarian society is concerned equal under the law should be all the government guarentees because in other ways we are not equal and never can be. We are not all equally ambitious, intelligent or wise. Only through tryanny can we "level the playing field". Liberty can not exist with mandated equality. Dr. Walter Williams will be hosting the Rush Limbaugh radio show tomorrow, Friday 12-3 Eastern somwhere on your AM dial. Tune in and give it a listen. He is entertaining as well as thought provoking. Check out his syndicated columns too.
Cheers,
