Chechnya: Russia Says Threat Will Unite It With NATO

Mosocow, 25 November 2002 (RFE/RL) -- Russia's government spokesman on Chechen affairs, Sergei Yastrzhembskii, said today that a rebel leader's threat of more terrorist attacks will help unite Russia and Western nations in the fight against terrorism.

Chechen rebel commander Shamil Basaev issued the threat in a statement published by German newspaper "Welt am Sonntag" yesterday. He said all "military, economic, and strategic" sites in Russia will become targets unless talks on ending the three-year war begin soon. Basaev called on NATO to put pressure on Russia to negotiate.

Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected similar demands from Basaev supporters when they were issued during the takeover of a Moscow theater by Chechen rebels one month ago.

A Moscow health official said today that the attack and rescue operation has claimed the life of the 129th hostage, a woman who died in a hospital yesterday.

Clintoons War against the Serbs was a 'Humanitarian War'. Remember those images of the skinny starved Albanians. And then of course there was the Albanian Americans rallying in New York to go join the Albanian War effort. What a joke that was, since it is now a fact that the KLA were in league with the Islamic Terrorists. Instead of admitting their mistake, what does the left do ? Some have rationalized the loss of the Trade Centers. Some have also attacked Bush for fighting a War for Oil. Some have had the audacity to investigate the possibility that Bush may have been able to prevent 911. Why not investigate why the left supported the KLA terrorists in the first place ?

I say its time to give the left what they want. Lets declare our intentions to take all the oil in the middle east from the hands of Muslim Terrorist Sympathizers and into the hands of the Western Nato and Eastern Russian/Indian Alliance. Let the left jump up and down about how they were actually right for a change. Who cares. They are irrelavent unless they have Millions to run negative TV adds like they do in Californika. The left can continue to ignore the plight of the Iraqi people under Saddam. Heck, every screwed up problem in the world can be solved if we would just get rid of our SUV's anyway.

We do need to be worried about Russia however. Not with respect to what they may do to us, but what they will do to the Islamic Terrorists if a WMD is used upon Russian soil. When they get screwed, the russians dont consult their inner child to determine the root cause of why they led someone to hate them. The Russians just dish out payback and they dont deal with thugs. The recent terrorist takeover of a theater in Moscow is an example. Do you think they cared what the World thought about their use of that gas ? No. The same will happen if a WMD is used upon them. Unlike us Americans who wonder how bad we might look when we retaliate, the Russians will just kick some major but. They have all the WMD they need, plus some even we have not had the heart to develop. They also have a history of using limited gas and bio warfare in Afghanistan.
