To be honest, I have no idea what a Destroyer is supposed to do in the modern Navy. That does not look like a scary boat, with one gun up front and a helipad in the back.

Submarine detection and destruction, but the MOST important job is the protection of the carrier. It is part of a task force and battle group.

From this site:

Features: Destroyers and guided missile destroyers operate in support of carrier battle groups, surface action groups, amphibious groups and replenishment groups. Destroyers primarily perform anti-submarine warfare duty while guided missile destroyers are multi-mission [Anti-Air Warfare (AAW), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASUW)] surface combatants. The addition of the Mk-41 Vertical Launch System or Tomahawk Armored Box Launchers (ABLs) to many Spruance-class destroyers has greatly expanded the role of the destroyer in strike warfare.

It would also be nice to have one up here on Lake St. Clair to take care of personal watercraft that like to play "chicken" with larger craft.

Dog,
you captain a WW2 era warship -- any WW2 warship, and I'll take an Aegis Destroyer. Hell, you can have two. We'll take them to sea and have a duel.....

Wanna take a guess whose gonna win?

DG... look just under the first smokestack in the pic - down a bit - there is a notch and a light colored square under it - these are weapons of the first order - most hi tech weapons platforms are not easily seen - unless you are trained to look for them - this weapon sys is on both sides of the ship and there is more - much more...
the gun? for lo tech ingagements...
