This information goes back many, many years. Practically ANY affliction such as asthma can be helped to some degree. Nothing new here, but thanks for posting it.

And the mechanism for all these good things is...?

And the reason for posting this on FR is ... ?
To: Clara Lou
IgA, an immunoglobulin, is increased with spinal manipulation according to this very recent report...
cortisol, released in times oif stress by the body, is reduced when an asthmatic is given a manipulation according to this...
I find this highly interesting and promising...
if I were an asthmatic, or had an asthmatic child, I'd be off to see a chiropractor tomorrow!
To: Gordian Blade
why do you ask that question?
this is news...
it was published in this month's Dynamic Chiropractic...
my chiropractor gets it...
isn't that what you post on FR? - news...
To: Physicist
as a microbiologist I assure you physicist the mechanism is hieghtened ability to ward off an asthma attack...

oh no mr eggs - this is new information in that this looked at the body's response to a manipulation...
they actually measured the levels of immunoglobulin IgA and found it increased - which is great for an ashtmatic!
To: RnMomof7
great - something to look into!

This is complete bunk! Check out www.quackwatch.org for the truth on chiropractic.
Chiropractic is based on the absurd premise that all illness and disorders stem from a misalignment of some kind in the spine. It is totally without scientific merit. Also, chiropractic has its origins in the occult and is about as useful as auras and other nonsense. (See "The Skeptical Inquirer) And for a great laugh about this bogus practice, read H.L. Mencken's piece on chiropractic.
I can't believe that insurance companies are forced to pay for this quackery, and this makes health insurance more expensive for everyone. What a crock!

Well, maybe I should say that this is something that we've known about for a long time, but just didn't have the words to label it. I've known for years that manipulation of the back can relieve cold and flu symptoms, among other things. I always thought it was just a function of 'getting the blood' moving. Now it seems that it's a trigger mechanism for certain chemicals. It IS good news.

Are there any corroborating studies to support this report? Corroboration by multiple sources could make a believer out of me, not just this report.

You go to your church and I'll go to mine. I just happen to know that there ARE certain things that chiropractic CAN relieve, and sometimes cure. Not everything, of course, and the "bad" chiropractors who rip off insurance and workers comp certainly DO make all of them look bad. But there ARE good ones, and they help many people.
To: krodriguesdc
Heh. As soon as I read the headline, I thought, "This
will be from some pro-chiropractic group."
Suh-prise suh-prise!

You go to your church and I'll go to mine. You've used this naive formulation before.
Do you ever allow yourself the luxury of
skepticism when it involves something you
would like to believe is true?
