I am doing that right now.
My parents are not in good health and I do not want to end up in their situation. Since I do not, I exercise and cook healtier foods. I am able to maintain my weight, and my health (besides my sinuses) are in great shape.
FTR, I exercise 4-5 times a week for 1/2 to 1 hr, and it shows when I go in for my annual physical.

God bless that you are alive and on he mend to tell your story. Clearly you mean alot to the freepers here, BUT more importantly I think that you have touched many of us with your message. I faithfully have a physical every year, BUT managed to skip this one...too busy...will do it later. (and also a few concerns I'm not wanting to deal with) Mr. D. has been on my case....as often as yesterday....First thing next week the appointment is being made. thanks!
P.S. I was a 3 pack a day smoker for years, quit 7 years ago at 41 (after many failed attempts), did the gum and wrote a letter to myself prior to quiting as if I was telling a child or spouse that I loved...all the problems smoking was causing me, why I wanted to quit...etc.etc. I carried that letter around with me for a year...every time I had a craving I pulled it out... Well guess what...it worked...
May your recovery continue.
